I believe that the Grammy's go from November 30 of a year to November 29 of the next year or something like that...

The eligibility period is always October 1 through September 30. I'm sure her single was released to radio during that time. Grammy doesn't just randomly pick the nominees - they are submitted to them.

Nomination list there. Bitch or say what you're happy with.

1. First of all, how the hell did the BEP get a record of the year nom (not to mention Usher)? Where the hell is "If I Ain't Got You"?

2. How is Joss Stone a "new artist"?

3. Gwen Stefani somehow nets a Female Pop Vocal Performance nomination for "What You Waiting For?", despite this song being released long after the deadline. So then why didn't U2 receive nominations for the new LP if they're going to flout the rules?
[Edited 12/7/04 10:03am]

When was the Stefani song offically released? It might be monkey business or just a mistake. U2 full album was released merely weeks ago...now you know that ain't right. Can U2 sit out one fucking Grammy awards? U2 is great and all, but seriously. Enough is enough.

And yes, most of the nods, as predicted, suck!

First, I just want to say how extremely happy I am for Janet, Terry, and Jimmy. With all of the controversy surrounding the release of Damita Jo, Janet has still got to know how much the industry respects her.

That said, I wish All Nite had been nominated for the dance category.

But I'm just so HAPPY for Janet's two nominations, I'll forgive them this time. wink

And GOOOOO PRINCE!!!!! I hope at least he performs. It would be great if BOTH Janet and Prince performed, not together, but maybe.....

Yeah Janet. I don't even think that TVR got a nod for R&B album (and in this case, contemporary R&B album). Dissapointed she didn't get that a dance nod like I predicted for "All Nite" but it's the ususal mix of pop "divas" (Britney and Kylie), faceless techno guys (The Chemical Brothers and Bassment Jaxx) and to the delight of some on the org, I'm sure, the Scissor Siters.

In defense of the grammys (I NEVER thought I'd say that sentence) they did tweek the best new artist award to award artist who "broke through" in a particular year. Back when Whitney Houston was disqualified because she had a single on someone elses album prior to the year she broke big everyone was all up in arms. Believe it or not people were also up in arms when Richard Marx was disqualified for similar reasons. So they were like ok then, lets focus on the year when the artist breaks big, hence Shelby Lynn's nod.

I hope he wins.

I was actually somewhat satisfied with this category (with the exception of Britney). When I saw the nominations I thought it was great that the dance categories actually featured "dance/techno" artists. I'd given up on the dance categories as it became a way to just give MORE awards to the same old rNb/pop shit, not to award a different genre of music.

Don't get me wrong-I love a lot of that "rNb/pop shit." I just hope for the dance category to award "faceless techno guys" that make dance music that makes MY ass shake much harder than Britney or Damita Jo-Janet ever did.

That's why I love the Org though. It reminds me that my opinions are just that. (even though they are the right opinions wink )

The winners of these the dance awards have mainly been the divas. Madonna, Janet, Cher, Kylie and even Donna Summer (for one of her lamest records) have all won the award. While Janet ("All For You"), Cher ("Believe") and Madonna ("Ray Of Light") have all won for memorable records, in the cases of Kylie, they missed the boat with "Can't Get You Outta My Head" (she won for "Come Into My World") and in the case of Donna (who won for a reissue of the lackluster "Carry On"), it was a definate lifetime achievement award and it was the first year the catogery was out. It's probably Britney's turn this year, although "Toxic" was only an OK record. Nothing wrong with Basement Jaxx or the Chemical Brothers. They'll all great. I'm just saying, it tends to be the same types of artists each year and ladies tend to win.

redface giggle

I just realized I was mixing up complaints about craptastic awards shows. I think I was getting mixed-up with MTV Video Awards who at some point added a techno/dance award that for a few years featured original and good nominees but then later just featured the same ol' same ol'.

That being said, I do kinna like "Toxic" redface

The Black Eyed Peas nod for record of the year is pretty funny considering that song used to be called "Let's Get Retarteded". Something to be proud of!

The record of the year should be based on popular songs, right? I get four of the five nominees (even "Heaven" got some radio play for a pop rock song) but what the hell is the Ray Charles/Norah Jones duet? Yes, he's dead and he was great, but record of the year? That's a huge stretch and they know it. Come on! Everywhere they do something ridicilous.
