Who remembers A Taste Of Honey? I'm listening to their 1978 self-titled debut album and it is just superb. The big hit,of course,is "Boogie Oogie Oogie" (one of the funkiest, most infectious disco songs ever),but it would be a big mistake to label this a "disco album".The rest of the album is surprisingly mellow, with lovely midtempo R&B jams like "This Love Of Ours" and "If We Loved" (which really should have been a single). These girls can really funk it up a bit too.Despite it's title,"Disco Dancin" (the second single) is more funk than disco, and it boasts an irresistible,bass-heavy groove.I'm surprised that it wasn't a bigger hit...
"Disco dancin,Disco dancin...revolutionary shaking your behind" Am I the only one who is digging this album?

here I go again,sounding like a record exec...lol...
Curiously, when it came time to pick a second single to follow up "Boogie Oogie Oogie",Capitol foolishly chose "You're In Good Hands",which is actually the album's weakest track. Not surprisingly, that song disappeared without a trace and they rush-released "Disco Dancing" (the logical choice) as the next single. It would have made more sense to release the uptempo "Disco Dancing" as the second single, then follow it up with the strong ballad "If We Loved".

Hip to the band and the song but never had the album. My memory of this tune is as a musician trying to stay alive during the disco era and having to cover this tune too many times. Get down, Boogie-oogie-oogie Get down, Boogie-oogie-oogie Get down, Boogie-oogie-oogie Get down - - - - - - - (FREEZE) I can listen to it now and enjoy it though. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. You're probably not going to believe me but my cousin actually wrote Boogie Oogie Oogie and gave it to the band. He thought the song was novelty and didn't think it would sell. But the joke was on him. He told me that he wasn't hung up about it though. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Yes, I do. "Boogie Oogie Oogie" is a classic.
I have an olddd JET magazine from the '70s with an advertisement of ATOH's "new LP" featuring "the biggest selling disco hit of the year - "Boogie Oogie Oogie." I'd make a scan of it if I could find it. . [Edited 12/3/04 15:15pm]

Yeah man. Kinda Bernard-like. Disco Nights, I Do Love You, and the remake of Billy Stewart's Sitting In The Park were cool tunes back in the day. Make My Dreams A Reality and Is It Cool jammed also. I read where he's got his own label now (Imprint) that'll have some new GQ product out next year. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I saw them on a PBS Disco Special which came on this past weekend. It was their first time performing together since 1984.They looked and sounded GREAT.They performed "Boogie Oogie Oogie" and I also saw a brief clip of them performing "Sukiyaki",complete with the Japanese costumes.I hope they will do a reunion tour.

you gotta love the first verse to "Boogie Oogie Oogie"...
"If you're thinking you're too good to boogie Boy oh boy have I got news for you Everybody here tonight must boogie Let me tell me,you are no exception to the rule" They won the 1978 Grammy for Best New Artist and that angered alot of people. You don't get alot of respect when your big hit is called "Boogie Oogie Oogie"

I actually liked their second album, "Another Taste",(the one with "Do It Good") better than the first album ...and, dammitt, that's the only one not reissued on CD!!(somebody in Europe or Japan , please put this one out)... it was another Mizell Brothers production... actually, it was the ballads that sold me on this record....it wasn't a big seller, though, and it wasn't until their next album, "Twice As Sweet"(produced by George Duke), that they scored big again, with their remake of "Sukiyaki", and their 4th, Ladies of the 80's, which featured their remake of Smokey's "I'll Try Something New".....

I've never heard their second album 'Another Taste'(1979) but I am desperately looking for it.I think I'll go into my local used record store and buy it on vinyl. The first single "Do It Good" is superb.
