Official Grammy bitch thread

http://www.grammy.com/awa...7noms.aspx

Nomination list there. Bitch or say what you're happy with.

1. First of all, how the hell did the BEP get a record of the year nom (not to mention Usher)? Where the hell is "If I Ain't Got You"?

2. How is Joss Stone a "new artist"?

3. Gwen Stefani somehow nets a Female Pop Vocal Performance nomination for "What You Waiting For?", despite this song being released long after the deadline. So then why didn't U2 receive nominations for the new LP if they're going to flout the rules?

Isel

First, I just want to say how extremely happy I am for Janet, Terry, and Jimmy. With all of the controversy surrounding the release of Damita Jo, Janet has still got to know how much the industry respects her.

That said, I wish All Nite had been nominated for the dance category.

But I'm just so HAPPY for Janet's two nominations, I'll forgive them this time. wink

And GOOOOO PRINCE!!!!! I hope at least he performs. It would be great if BOTH Janet and Prince performed, not together, but maybe.....

Re: "What You Waiting For" nomination

It's sorta like that year "Beautiful Day" was nominated but the album couldn't be.

I know, but the single was released to radio long after the deadline.

I don't know then.

I'm worried Usher is going to sweep his catagories like Beyonce last year. I just don't find his contributions that significant, yknow?

Same here, though I think that Usher will sweep the pop and R&B categories and Ray Charles will win posthumously for album and song of the year.

There are some half-way decent nominations on the list: It's good to see Prince get five nods, although he probably won't get any of them. It's really good to see Anita Baker and Jill Scott get nods, too: Real R&B music. Can anyone tell me why it took almost ten people to write that god-awful Yeah song?

Usher will sweep the Grammys, y'all. disbelief

Gwen's single must've been in some sort of limited release before the deadline.

Nah, the Grammys never really follow the rules. Otherwise Joss Stone, Cyndi Lauper, Paula Cole et. all never would have been nominated for Best Artist.

Hey VC, remember them nominating Shelby Lynn and she had been around for six years?

U2 got 3 nominations for 'Vertigo'; Best Rock Performance by Duo or Group W/Vocal, Best Rock Song, and Best Short Form Music Video.

The album was released well after the cut off point, but the lead single was eligible because it was released in the middle of September.

Jacques Lu Cont's remix of "It's My Life" got a much deserved nomination.

I make my own club mix-tape every year and this was the very first track that went on the 2004 edition.

Re: the best new artist award. They've changed the qualification in recent years to say something to the effect of "when an artist comes to prominence." That is how Shelby Lynne won Best New Artist (for a great album, mind you) with her FIFTH album.

These nominations are a serious joke. There were some really great albums this year and they got lost in the shuffle of popular releases. Of course, we knew this was going to happen: it always does. That doesn't make it any easier to digest.

I still think Van Lear Rose was the best album of the year and it didn't score any major nominations outside of the country categories. Oh well. I don't need Grammy to tell me what is/isn't great. I know in my heart smile

Must say I'm impressed with the nominations for Green Day. I hope they snag the Album and Record of the Year awards; at least they have something to say with their music.

I believe that the Grammy's go from November 30 of a year to November 29 of the next year or something like that...

Didn't the Best New Artist award used to be considered 'the kiss of death' for many artists? When was the last time you heard a new hit from Paula Cole, Christopher Cross, Men at Work, Milli Vanilli, Marc Cohn, Bruce Hornsby, Hootie and the Blowfish, or the Starland Vocal Band?

Nominating Joss Stone for Best New Artist? She's not even a new artist to Old Navy's playlist.
