did anyone else see that "Disco Special" on PBS? So,it's Saturday evening, and I'm turning the channels trying to find something worthwhile to watch.I come across a Disco special on PBS (KTEH) and it was alot of fun!! Apparently, this was some kind of benefit concert to raise money for PBS-TV,which is an independent station. There were so many classic songs being performed by the original artists,it was just amazing...
A Taste Of Honey singing "Boogie Oogie Oogie"!! Peaches and Herb singing "Shake Your Groove Thing" Tavares singing "More Than A Woman" as Danny Terio and the actress who co-starred in 'Saturday Night Fever' (as Stephanie) danced together KC and The Sunshine Band singing a blistering version of "Get Down Tonight" Martha Wash singing "It's Raining Men" 2 of the girls from Chic performing "Le Freak" Frankie Valli singing "December 1963 (Oh What A Night)" Leo Sayer singing "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" The Village People singing "YMCA" damn,I wish I had been taping this show! But there is a DVD that you can order. They also showed many rare videos for songs such as "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees,"How Deep Is Your Love" by the Bee Gees,"Last Dance" by Donna Summer,"More More More" by Andrea True Connection,"Working My Way Back To You" by the Spinners, etc.

PBS does this quite often. I remember they had Maxine Nightingale performing "Right Back Where We Started From" and she still sounds just as good. Too bad I missed this, because it sounds like huge fun.

I wish I had a schedule so I'll know when they're gonna show this again. Is it a monthly thing?

I caught this performance and some white guy group singing a song I had no idea what it was (one of them was in a different outfit than the others). I'm assuming it was a tribute to the artists and the orginal artist was the one in the different outfit. Anyway, back to A Taste Of Honey, I didn't know that chick could play the bass. When I first flipped to it I was like "Cool, Rhonda is on a TV special!" But then I quickly discovered it wasn't her.

It was Franki Valli performing his 1976 hit "December 1963 (Oh What A Night)".I guess The Four Seasons couldn't be there to sing it with him,so he used a generic boy group instead (lol),but I'm not sure what they're called.

Gonna have to disagree with you on this one bro. Rhonda can go on acoustic also. Check out the samples from her Intellipop CD: http://www.rhondasmith.co...music.html Mother Earth Calling To Say Goodbye Epilogue Also, Hazel Payne's guitar playing on the special was... ... not good. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Caught it late. Right as Leo Sayer's performance ended. I plan on doing a thread comparing this show, which is part of the PBS - My Music series, with the show they did last night (Magic Moments - Pop Hits of the 50s) also part of that series. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I know they said they hadn't played together in 20(?) years. Btw, did you notice them flash, on what looked like, Sheldon Reynolds (former(?) EWF guitarist) for a sec? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

YEP! I caught that, too! So he doesn't play with them anymore? Well here's a shot after their performance at M-Audio's area of the 2004 NAMM show. They list... "After an exhilarating appearance, Earth, Wind and Fire’s Robert Brookins, Kim Brewer, Ralph Johnson, Verdine White, John Paris, Benjamin Whitworth, Myron McKinley, John Johnson, and Daniel de los Reyes snap a quick shot in front of the Main Stage." No Sheldon. (Myron McKinley's got his head in the right place.) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. It's Monday night so apparently they re-aired it. I just caught the last hour of it. Even though a lot of it was pre-recorded music with live singing, I still enjoyed the hell out of it. There also was some live music too. It was great seeing all those old artists again.
PBS does this every now and then. I recorded a special they did a few months ago that had old R & B artists and some disco artists also. I saw the DVD in the record store a few weeks ago. I hope the disco special will be in stores also. I would love to have the additional footage that they did not air. I would love to have ordered it off the television but of course the donation price is too steep for me. The way my money is going these days, I'm about ready to start taking donations myself. Sheldon Reynolds married Jimi Hendrix's sister Janie and he participates on those Hendrix Tribute cds and concerts. That was definitely him playing backup for a lot of those acts. Maybe it's just me, but he never seemed to fit in EWF. Maybe he needed to wear his hair like Verdine
Robert Brookins is in EWF now? Hmmm... That concert was taped in Asbury Park, N.J., which is about 40-45 minutes from me. It was organized by this guy in his mid-late 30's who loves classic disco/soul. There are more shows like this planned for next year. Hazel Payne's guitar solo - maybe she had a bad night or somethin'. I hope that's the case. She and Lenny Kravitz (see the American Music Awards) definitely know how to play, shall we say, "underwhelming solos". That guy from Wild Cherry was good, though. Would've liked to hear him rip it up some more. Irene Cara is still hot. Glad to see and hear her in fine form. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm YEP! I caught that, too! So he doesn't play with them anymore? Yes,that was Sheldon Reynolds. He's no longer a member of Earth Wind and Fire, and that's a shame, because he was one of their best "new" members. He's the only one who sounds decent singing the parts that Maurice originally sang. And he's a superb guitarist as well.
