Beck - Midnight Vultures
Radiohead - Kid A
Paul Simon - You're The One
Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP

It just typefied the "let's give it to the old soft rock geezers" mentality.

But wasn't the Backstreet Boys "Millennium" nominated for album of the year the year before? I mean that's how much credibility these awards have.

Uh, did you even hear Millennium?

A friggin' masterpiece. lol

Sorry, Stevie, only people I know who buy Eminem are confused white kids from the suburbs who don't know what real rap is. Black people are smarter than that.

True in most respects, but you sound limited to whom you know. I'm almost positive that if you researched popular music trends (Rap in question) in relation to economic habitats and race habitats, you would find a stronger comparision to what you orignally assumed. Urban ghettos, suburbanites, and rural bastards are all aware of the numerous artists and various styles of music existing today. Unfortunately, the majority of music the average individual listens to is the commerical music. Whether it be rap (LL Cool J), jazz (Miles Davis), blues (Buddy Guy), rock (Aerosmith), surf (Dick Dale), reggae (Bob Marley), metal (Metallica), alternative (Green day), etc...

So in conclusion, I strongly believe that both the, "confused white kids" from the suburbs and the "smarter" black kids listen to the same music generally in respect to commercial rap, ie; TuPac, R Kelly, Ememim, WuTang, Beastie Boys, Jay Z, etc... By the way, black people have been known to live in the suburbs too... just in case you were ignorant to the fact.

I think you're drawing way too many conclusions from my post. Why did you make the quantum leap to "no black people in the suburbs."? Please tell me where I said this? (this goes for you, too, MrSquiggle).

All I know (and that is what I was discussing - people I know) is that my black friends think Eminem is a complete joke, because they tend to know a lot more of rap's history, so they know what real rap music sounds like, and they don't settle for crap like Eminem. He's a complete joke to them. Maybe it's just a reflection of my area, but how is this "racist"?

I agree with Stevie and Michael. I thought Eminem's "Just Lose It" is not only a bad song choice but makin fun of Michael Jackson is something he did on purpose...even b4 the album was born as he said on his interlude that he loves Michael Jackson and just said he hates the plastic surgeries....but still.

I don't know..I still love Eminem cuz he is a good rapper, but he was wrong for that and got cool points doced down from me.

but i am tired of celebs supporting michael jackson. let the jury decide before jumping on the bandwagon.every body makes fun of michael so i don't think it's racially motivated. the point is that eminem is beating a dead horse, he needs to make fun of someone who fights back-lol like courtney love. he's weak. if people ignore his ass(and 50 cent to) he won't have shit.

And how do you explain the Grammys. Steely Dan album of the year? There is no explanation.

Yeah, but most new music sucks when compared to the stuff the "old geezers" did back in the day so I'd rather see Steely Dan or Dylan or Stevie win awards every year than most of these booboos making records today.

Granted, their last truly great album was Gaucho in 1980. But for a comeback Two Against Nature was a solid set of songs. So much healthier than most rock veteran's efforts. Especially with it being their first album in 20 years.

The poor blind geezer. His best days are behind him. That is what I mean by geezer. Kind of like Steely Dan. Sure they still kick ass live but they are not exactly making the kind of music that got them famous to begin with. Eminem is still going strong, fresh and new. I'm sure his day will come too and we'll be calling him a geezer.

Yes,Eminem is still going strong (in a commercial sense),but how many of his songs will be regarded as "classics" 25 years from now? Will people still be playing "Just Lose Yourself" in ten years? Will folks even care about him? Damn near EVERY Stevie Wonder single from the 70s is now righfully regarded as a "classic". Stevie's music has stood the test of time and you know why? Real music never goes out of style.Trends come and go,but let's see if Eminem becomes half the legend that Stevie is.Id rather listen to a multi-talented "old geezer" than a foul-mouthed rapper who must resort to shock tactics in order to sell records.

I'm not saying it was a bad record, but I am saying that it was quite a surprise (upset) that year when they won considering the competition (Beck and Radiohead, especially).

Again. My point. Stevie had is day and is a living legend but is showing his age by commenting on that video. I think there should be more of videos like that. I mean how often does anyone talk about the lack of creativity in videos these days? MTV? How often are videos played anymore? Eminem has one of the best new videos out for Mosh and not many people have seen it! The comment about black people not liking Eminem is crap because a lot of my black friends love Eminem and they are true hip-hop fans. Eminem has already made classic rap songs and his new album has plenty more of them. But there is a difference between his classics and Stevie's classics. It is not fair to compare the two really. Both are equally talented. So what if Eminem can't play an instrument! Can Stevie rap or drop a dope beat? Did I say dope? Time to end this rant...

Oh shit, I remember that!

But still (and I'm sure theAudience will agree wink ), any committee that nominates Backstreet Boys for album of the year cannot be taken seriously.

Or the fact that Britney has gotten two Best Female Pop Vocal Performance nominations.

I don't know about the racist thing, but Stevie is right. This guy is just a sucker. He uses the big names to be part of the game. It is just sad and he won't be remembered. Don't believe the hype, days will go by and he will go away.

What is it about the grammys you are so upset? Who, except for the business people, needs it anyway?

you only see him picking on singers and pop stars. if he's so bad, why don't he try to diss Nas or Jay-Z or somebody. he's a coward, plain and simple. if he's so good why doesn't he step his game up and go against some of the best. Britney, Christina, and Michael aren't rappers...how the hell are they gonna respond? And he has his own fucking issues to deal with. Why don't he rap about THAT shit. I really want somebody to blow his spot up. and it's sad that he has D12 and 50 Cent all up in his ass for a record deal. That's sad. I wouldn't stoop that low. I want to be a singer and all, but i'm not sucking Elton John's dick for a record deal any time soon.
