Cliff Richard the Elvis of England? i was reading my trusty billboard book and i was reading that Cliff Richard had about 8 or 9 top 40 hits here in America but 80 charted hits in England and 10 #1's! is he like the Elvis of England and is he still popular at 63 years old? and why didnt his success cross over to the U.S? Different stars, I guess. In the UK and Europe they go nuts over some people and I just have to wonder why. Cliff is one of them. Of course, we have Usher (who isn't as successful over there) and Snoop Dogg so you see what I mean. | |

Personally, I cant beleive England still treasures this has been!! Over here hes this countrys #1 housewife and granny favourite crooner!!Hes beloved by mindless housewives and grandmothers nationwide here!! Hes also a self-confessed gay celibate(He is 60-odd and hes never had sex, or so he says!!) yet years ago in the 70s he had a "romance" with Olivia Newton John, before she saw the light and headed over 2 America!!
He is not only a pop "performer"(and I use that term loosely), but also he has another life as a devout Born-Again Christian and he does Mission and Gospel Tours and often appears on religious programmes here!! He is the ultimate media darling here!!!! Hes such a self righteous do-gooder, it makes me puke!!! The thing is, if Prince is not careful, hes gonna end up just like Cliff Richard!! i'm lucky in that the only things i actually know by him with any certainty at all is his duet with Janet on Dream Street and his duet with Elton John on Leather Jackets. fortunately, i never listen to those albums because they suck (Dream Street less so than the other one). Managed to get another plug in for America eh Roz, when do you ever give up?
