you honestly don't see the difference, from a regulatory angle how breast feeding and flashing a pierced nipple for salacious effect?

it's the equivalent of a woman walking down the street and flashing her breasts at a 10 year old. or how about if it was man, who'd whipped his dick out?
[Edited 12/11/04 10:37am]

Well women are legally allowed to go topless in public in Ontario, so that's not really an issue where I live.

However, an uncovered breast is not the end of the world for a child. And certainly not one filmed from 150 feet away.

honestly, i'd have more respect for Janet if she'd just fessed up and said "yeah, i did it on purpose." whether she apologized for it or not would be beside the point. people have been giving Justin Timberlake shit copping out, but Janet did as well and no one's called her a wimp over it.

and to bring this back to Madonna (insert thread-jacking pic here), she would've said "obviously i did it on purpose. fuck off."

if Janet's going to pull this kind of shit, she ought to stand by it. wimping out didn't help her. so she might as well have copped to it. and i'd have had more respect for her if she had.

did she admitted to doing it on purpose yet? that's the main issue to me. if she admitted she did it on purpose, and then apologized, i'd understand. if she admitted to doing it on purpose, and then stood by it, i'd respect her more (even if the album still sucks). but calling it an accident, publicly apologizing, and then quietly saying she wished she hadn't apologized is pointless and wishy-washy.

she needs to grow a pair if that stunt and the last few albums are indicative of the kind of pop star she wants to be.

She said it was a mistake to apologize because it made it appear as if she did it on purpose.

eek Okay, totally lost. Isn't this a Janet Thread? Why is Madonna's name in this? Janet fans and Madonna fans should be comparing them on the basis that they are both strong women who know what they want and they both are icons in the music industry. They're both great in their own rights. Both have amazingly memorable videos and songs and both have done a little lip-syncing in their time, so neither one is above the other, IMO. Janet started her career with albums that contained more substance than her current ones and Madonna did just the opposite, so I think they should get together and do something amazing. Duet anyone, biggrin

It would probably be worse than Me against the Music. And besides, Madonna hates Janet.

Janet dislikes Madonna because of Madonna's early-90s comments regarding Michael. On the DJ promo tour in Toronto, it was suggested that Janet and Madonna do a duet, and Janet laughed and politely declined.

The irony of people arguing back and forth about whose stunt was worse is that madonna is quoted in saying, "there are worse things on television than Janet flashing her breast." So even Madonna defends her

So shut up with this crap

And regarding Madonna and Janet they have 3 options according to me

1. Have a cat fight and let out their anger

2. Make a Sex book together with them in lesbian love

3. Kiss and make up like 2 adult women

yes. but that's hardly a scathing criticism of janet. she was only commenting on janet's Rhythm Nation-era fashion sense.

If i was in the music industry and had a brother like MJ, and Madonna said he should come out of the closet, i wouldn't be offended.

I mean, Madonna tried to get close to Michael, so she knows he's not really straight.
Janet is supposed to be a big gay icon and she did a bad thing by getting mad at Madonna for saying MJ is gay. that makes it seem like she doesn't like gay people

The whole family is very protective of each other. Madonna's public remarks were completely inappropriate, regardless of what his his orientation actually is. This is analogous to the popular blonde cheerleader at school "outing" your brother over the PA system, you know what I mean?

Exactly. Like the kids watching had never seen a breast before (and certainly not the barely-covered ones of Britney Spears on previous halftime shows or the ones Nelly was practically milking with his hands in the set preceding Janet's). So what it really comes down to is the nipple. Yes, America hates the nipple. And the long shot of Janet's from about 150 feet away really fractured the nation.

I think the point trying to be made here is that parents knew that the half-time show was produced by MTV waaay before the stunt even happened, so regardless of whether the Super Bowl was filmed on broadcast TV or cable TV was overlooked by parents who let their children watch a half-time show that was produced by a cable TV channel that these idiots supposedly don't let their children watch. Besides, like I had mentioned in a past post, millions of children saw Britney Spears' nipples waaay back in 2000 on Nickelodeon. Last time I checked, Nickelodeon was only available on cable TV and it's a children's network, so if Mrs. Spear...Federline...whatever, isn't getting crucified for that stunt, than neither should Janet. The network should have fined all of the performers for lawd behavior instead of just Janet. Plus, they did have a man who did whip out his dick at the Super Bowl and from articles I read on the incident, this guy had done the exact same thing at three previous Super Bowls, so his little stunt was just as planned as Nipplegate was. All I see is a bunch of bullshit double standards.

It shows to me that she's defensive of her family.

Madonna on the other hand was always a nasty, spiteful bitch. It's what we love her for because she's larger than life. But it leaves her open to this sort of criticism. And if she were that cheerleader, well, we'd hate her fucking guts.

It's odd that you'd say that, considering I'm a die-hard Madonna fan, too. But I'm realistic about her personality. I think she's a brilliant, but rather cruel and harsh, woman.

She's hardly cruel, she just says as she feels and sometimes that hurts. She speaks the truth and sometimes the truth hurts.
I think she's a beautiful woman, and everything she has done has personally touched me and turned me into a better person.

A cruel, harsh, woman cannot raise 2 lovely children and write children's stories and have a healthy marriage.

Madonna has outed her own brother, and to my knowledge there's no bad ties there.
Coming out of the closet is tough, y'know, but you're not gay apparently so what would you know

Please don't make this into a "you're not one of us" issue. I have a gay brother and he was very mistreated in high school (it was rural, and the surrounding area was not, shall we say, hospitable), so I'm just very sensitive when people decide they should go and "out" other people. Even if everyone already knows, the difference between it being unspoken and spoken is huge.

I'm glad that Madonna has touched you. Her music has done the same to me. I don't agree with your assessment of her personality, but hug
