Bonnie Raitt Appreciation Thread

Let's hear it for the 3rd best guitarist ever(next to Hendrix and Prince of course). She is a maestro with the guitar and is EXTREMELY underrated. I saw at the House of Blues a few years ago and she received 2 encores. She did an acoustic version of "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" and the audience was mesmerized(me included). Any fans of Bonnie out there?

I just saw Karla Bonoff a few weeks ago. She wrote for Bonnie, who is also great. Can't remember what songs but if you ever get a chance to listen to Karla's voice, it is great! I think she also wrote "I Don't Know Much" by Linda Rondstadt and Aaron Neville.

While I don't agree that she's "the 3rd best guitarist ever", I do like some of her songs.

Love Letter
Real Man
Thing Called Love
Something To Talk About
Come To Me
Slow Ride

and of course I Can't Make You Love Me.

Pretty much the material from her big albums.

She never comes off as pretentious and gives props to her roots.
Quite refreshing actually.

Bonnie's cool
I saw her at a festival a few years ago and the show was tight. She's a good guitarist, but far from the 3rd best, maybe 3rd best female

I agree . It was nice to see her finally have some success and recognition in the early 90s too...

Bonnie is a genius on the guitar. I would put her up against any of the guitarists out here today

I've always liked her live performances with John Lee Hooker. And some of her early 80s material is pretty underrated.

Personally, I think Bonnie's even more important as a vocalist. White singers very often tend to copy their black idols (with varying results). But Bonnie has managed to sing "black" music in a natural and convincing way, with a sound and style of her own - which I think is very unusual.

Therefore, she serves an important role as an example to other singers that this can actually be done.
