Grateful Dead Any other Dead/Jerry fans here in Paisley country? I have been listening to American Beauty, Europe '72, In The Dark, and Jerry's Don't Let Go, a lot lately...I have always been a fan. I wasn't a Deadhead, but saw them a few times in the 80s. One thing, most of my fellow Dead fans are suprised to hear I am also big Prince fan (though they all have huge respect for his talent).
So give a shout for the Dead and list favorite albums/songs/shows. | |

Whether you like the Dead or not, I think that no one's CD collection is complete without "American Beauty".
In addition to the above, I like the classic stuff: Aoxomoxoa, Skull and Roses, the other live album (Live Dead), Workingman's Dead, Europe 72, and the first Garcia "solo" album; as they got jazzier, I began to lose interest. There isn't a better way to pass a sunny day than to be with your friends at a Grateful Dead concert and drop as much acid as you dare. *****************************************

I am a recent "new" fan of the Dead.It has been a good few months of re-releases lately...Do yourself a favor and pick up "The Grateful Dead Movie" on DVD.It features the band at their peak in 1974 at Winterland , and has 90 minutes of additional concert performances from the same shows. Also, there is an excellent DVD out called "Festival Express" which features the Dead , The Band , Janis Joplin ( in what would turn out to be her last tour) and others on a tour by train of Canada . It was filmed in 1970 so PigPen is still with the group..... There are some great sets out that have just been re-released that compliment "Europe '72": "Hundred Year Hall" "Rockin' The Rhein" and "Steppin Out With..." are from the same tour...all are great.... I have been curious about this, but haven't looked at it only because a fellow Dead fan was disappointed after seeing it. I cant think why he would be disappointed...there are some great performances to enjoy: The Grateful Dead perform "Dont Ease Me In" , "New Speedway Boogie" and the two PigPen showcases "Easy Wind" and Otis Redding's "Hard To Handle". I was quite impressed.It's fascinating to watch the two drummers ,Kreutzmann and Hart playing side by side and Weir looks like a little kid 
Janis has 3 songs with her last band "Full Tilt Boogie" In all , it's not as impressive as the "Monterey Pop" DVD set but definitely gives the "Woodstock" one a run for it's money. "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....." | |
