What Albums Have You Worn Out or Replaced Most?

Tonight at work, I just realized I've played out my SECOND copy of Bowie's "Heathen" album, and so I'm gonna be keeping my eyes open at the wrecka stow used bins for a third damn copy of this album.

The most I ever had to replace an album, though, was "Purple Rain" (quelle surprise). The first two years it was out, I made it a rule not to go to bed unless I listened to the album at least once in its entirety (yes, I was a little freak; now I am a big freak). In the past 20 years, I've been through two "Purple Rain" LPs on vinyl, two cassettes, and two CDs. That's six damn copies of this album I've gone through. confused

Is there any album that you've ripped through more times than should be considered legal?

i have these things, but i don't think to make copies of my CDs when i buy em...i have tons and TONS of CDs in my collection, and it's not like they're wearing out left and right. plus i had at least TWO cassette COPIES of PR back in the day, and i STILL wore my storebought copies out. lol

I've worn out two vinyl copes of Television's Marquee Moon, and one copy of The Fall's Live at the Witch Trials.

I'm a little confused, though - how do you wear out a compact disc? Or am I miss-interpreting something here?

Nope! A cd-r, yes. How do you handle your CD's, though? I handle my CD-R's carelessly, so they get damaged (I know I can always replace 'em easily), but I'm careful with my silver-pressed discs.

i'm very very careful with 'em, especially my bowie and prince CDs. the only wear and tear they get is when i put them in my CD wallet for work, but even then i'm very organized and i also replace my CD wallet a couple times a year so the pockets don't get worn out and scratchy.

oh, and i play the BEJEEZUS out of my CDs, especially at work. i'm a big fan of the "repeat" function. nod

Well, I've definitely scratched discs - I put a huge gash on my copy of Neil Young's Everybody Knows This is Nowhere two days after I bought it, and it's been useless as anything besides a drink coaster ever since.

Otherwise, my cds have never caused me any trouble. I have discs that I've owned for fifteen years that I still play obsessively, and they've never given me any grief. I dunno - it's not like I treat them with kid gloves or anything. I'm actually pretty hard on my possessions - maybe I've just been lucky...

i have some other CDs that are ancient and still work just fine. in fact, the first CDs i ever got - "sgt. pepper", both discs of SOTT and eurythmics' "savage" - all play just peachy.

I've had to replace many a Prince tape. But I used to buy duplicate copies of certain albums, just cuz I liked giving them as gifts so much.

I've probably bought all of Prince's CD's at least twice now.

I used to keep my favorite albums all in a CD wallet too until I realized how fucked up they got. Now I just my wallet for finished CD-R projects. I don't have to replace things as often now.

It must be those bloody cd wallets that are causing all the damage I guess. I've never transported my CDs - they just stay in my home.

I've never ever ever had a CD skip on me. Ever.

I'm amazed when I go to other people's homes and they play CDs, thinking it's normal for them to jump around like they have tourettes syndrome.

What are you people doing to your record collections? eek

I only noticed your cd/dvd tower. I didn't see your whole collection. Of course, I was more fixated on the Bjork posters. And I was so tired from staying up all night yapping. You could've had chinchillas bouncing off the wall and I probably wouldn't have noticed. lol

I know! I don't think I've ever worn a CD out. I have bought some used CDs that had silver pits missing (nothing a skipdoctor could resurface). But the ones I bought new... even my very first CDs still play flawlessly.

But if you keep the CDs in their jewel cases, and not stacked on top of each other, or loose in your car console, or in CD wallets (where I had the most depreciation), they stay flawless.

That's the only one-- well and maybe Stevie Wonder's Talking book-- that I need to replace. Haven't done it yet. All of my cd's have worn pretty well since I bought cd's of everything I had on tape and record, and really liked. For some strange reason I've had to buy Zhane's Hey Mr D.J. cd a few times. I keep losing it. confused

I've never had a CD to skip on me either. I also have very few records that are scratched. The only thing I have ever had a problem with are those damned cassettes.
