of all the 80's bands i never figured U2.would still be this popular
to sell over 900,000 cd's this week

as i have said before i have always been a huge 80's music fan and i like about 90% of the stuff that came out in the 80's but i never ever liked U2 and could never figure out why they were so popular..Bono has always looked like a geek with those big ass sunglasses on all the time and i couldnt even tell you 1 song of their entire catalog that i like! my goodness with so many great bands from the 80's that cant sell records anymore how in hell does U2 do it???

Cuz they're good. Cuz they grew up together and they get along. Cuz they have endless passion for what they do. Cuz they don't need gimmicks to get by. Cuz they transcend the genres they're a part of and define them. Cuz they can really sing and play. Cuz they have something to say. Cuz they're unique.

Yeah, yeah. All right.. fair enough... but... apart from quailty, passion, getting along, no gimmicks, transcending genres, real singing, real playing, having something to say and being unique, what have U2 ever done for us???

eek I clicked on this thread and Vertigo came on the radio.

I like U2, but I don't have any of their cds! I gotta get some. My ex really dug them and I should have copied some cds from him before we broke up. lol We're still friends though, so I probably could still get them.

Bono is HOT. drool

I have never considered U2 an "80's" band. Yes, they sprung from the 80's. But listen back to some of their early work, especially The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum, and most of The Unforgettable Fire. It doesn't SOUND like something from the 80's. It doesn't sound dated.

U2 is one of those rare bands that transcend musical trends and phases, and just keep doing what they do - because they are so good. They are probably the best band in the world over the last 20 years. Every new release is a major event. And they have never been stronger artistically than they are now.

We are lucky to be around while U2 is still going strong, and at their peak. Hope I get a chance to see them live, I've never been to a U2 show.
