I don't think 2-Tone Ska is honored enough. It was such a great era in music, but in America they still give very little respect to it.

But maybe it'll all change once The Specials reform. And it has been confirmed that they will. nod

The ignorance of Jazz (the music and its historical significance) is quite a shame.
This celebrated (everywhere but here) American art form they have such a direct lineage to. Very similar to how the link to R&R was broken by shunning artists like Chuck Berry and Little Richard initially and eventually Hendrix to a great extent.

Hopefully they'll see through the current mainstream musical fakery being perpetrated.

You've been hoodwinked. You've been had. You've been took.
You've been led astray, led amok. You've been bamboozled.

Everyone has much to learn about the genre, like me. I have been listening to jazz studiously for over a decade and am still learning how to listen to it. But you are right. It is America's finest art form. Unfortunately, most jazz discussions have a short shelf life here.

I said this because they rocked as hard as any band I know, and influenced tons of the bands we consider greats. It's an unconventional argument, I know, but . . .

No, no, no.
namepeace this is actually a great analogy and makes perfect sense.
I just read a quote in Crosstown Traffic where the author says something incredibly similar.
I'll post it when I get home tonight.

How could they not rock with Elvin Jones drivin' the Trane?

Hendrix's most eloquent statement was wordless: an epic deconstruction of "The Star Spangled Banner" for guitar and indifferently-recorded drums and percussion which recalled nothing so much as the sonic hurricanes which John Coltrane had built around the melodies of innocuous show tunes like "Chim Chim Cheree" and "My Favorite Things".

Very astute statement namepeace. thumbs up!
