Favorite Christmas Albums Here are a few of mine:
A Motown Christmas: Various Artists -- My new avatar happens to be, in my opinion, the best compilation of Christmas music ever. It features so many classic groups performing the definitive renditions of songs, including The Jackson 5's "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," The Temptations' "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" and The Supremes' "White Christmas." It also features some timeless new classics, most notably, Stevie Wonder's "What Christmas Means to Me." The new version released a few years ago features Marvin Gaye's "I Want To Come Home For Christmas" that is ESPECIALLY timely today. A Charlie Brown Christmas (Original Soundtrack): Often imitated, often covered, never duplicated. Timeless, arguably the best original Christmas album ever with so many original Christmas standards. One of my favorite jazz albums of all time. Of each track on here, which is a classic, the greatest is the moving "Greensleeves" that closes the album. It can bring tears to your eyes. Wynton Marsalis: A Cresent City Christmas Card. The only Marsalis album I own is a superb one, especially his stunning rendition of "Silent Night" and the best version of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" I have ever heard. Various Artists: Jingle Bell Jazz. This may be the best jazz compilation out there, featuring Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon and Herbie Hancock. Also featured are a great rendition of "The Christmas Song" by the Arthur Blythe Quintet and Dave Brubeck's incredible version of "Rudolph" which incorporates phrasings from "Angels We Have Heard on High." To name but a few. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
