Jessic Simson plans new album, looks to BJORK FOR INSPIRATION

OH be Afraid!

Perhaps some of that Southern feel will end up seeping into her next album, Simpson said, since she's toying with experimenting with other genres in order to make more timeless music. "I want to still keep it pop," she said, "but steer left a little bit. maybe a little bit of jazz."

Though she's been listening to Björk for inspiration, Simpson doesn't want to overplan what she does next, lest the tunes sound forced. "I'm not going to put a lot of thought into it," she said

"There's a treadmill I'm going to be putting out," Her new regimen gave Simpson the idea to team up with her longtime personal trainer — and childhood friend — Mike Alexander from Sports Club/L.A. They plan not only to develop her own how-to video, but to get in the branding game with exercise equipment as well. she said. "And Mike's going to be giving me good tips for the video. He's a great guy, and he really keeps me focused, which is hard to do down in Baton Rouge, [Louisiana,]" where she's midway through shooting "Dukes" and where "everything's fried, Southern, Cajun."

I flipped over to her and Nick Christmas special and it was just untolerable dumb jokes and terrible skits. Yes, I realize they were spooffing vareity specials but there was no attempt to make it real and that's what made your reality show suck a hit. And she is just everywhere, I mean fucking everywhere this holiday season. FHE and Media Play had Jessica Simpson cut outs that held her the expanded editoin of her last album, her Christmas CD and her new live show DVD. And then we went to 7-11 and they are selling an exclusive Christmas EP. Overexposed much?

Yeah, whatever...rolleyes

Please, don't take it personally but I think ever since Bjork's first album Madonna did want to be like her. Think she's given up now.

Madonna is a hard worker and that's why I like her. On the other hand Bjork is just a genius. She doesn't have to try that hard.

I have to say, as much as I love Madonna, I kinda agree with you here.

Oh this is too easy. As she says she's not going to put a lot of thought into it. Then why do it? If it's not your passion and you have nothing worthy to add, why do it?

Bjork's probably getting nausious just hearing about this.

Of course she isn't going to put thought into it! That's what you hire people for!

Um... I want to do something different. Who can I get to do that for me?

Ahhh, the life of a pop star.

They seem to love that spotlight so much, I wouldn't be shocked if they did one just stay in the media.

What have we done to deserve the torture of her still being around-?? She's cute and all, but we know she can't really sing, if she runs out of oxygen trying to hit a high octave why is she fooling herself? Her & Nicky boy are the least deserving of their notoriety, but that's just my thing.

well, bjork does have her influences, but they tend to be more along the lines of Matmos and Swans...but if you mean she hires "style spies" like madonna's been known to do, then no. it's not what bjork has done.

well, not in awhile, anyway. however, that caes could be made when she was working extensively with Nellee Hooper, LFO, Plaid, Talvin Singh, etc.

yeah, and she worked extensively with matmos on her last album. she's not like prince - she's a collaborator, not someone who does everything by herself - but it seems as if bjork's ideas and concepts come from bjork, and not from "what's happening" in the electronic music scene that can be reappropriated for the top 40. not that there's anything WRONG with that...

well now, maybe. but the ideas didn't really come from her in the beginning of her solo career. the 808 stuff and the Nellee Hooper stuff. and whether or not it's appropriating into the top 40, she has been known to appropriate extremely trendy dj's/producers/remixers into her aresenal via maxi-singles and collaborations.

nothing wrong with collaboration, but the early part of her solo career seems like appropriation to me. she was interested in making that type of music, so went to the people that made that type of music and worked with them.

the more sure of herself she's gotten, the more she's moved away from that. Post is a step away from the type of music that made Debut an out-of-the-box critical darling. Homogenic another step away. still "electronica" but moving away.... Verspertine and Medulla are anything but.
