Grace Jones

Does anyone have any news on this woman? Any talk of a new CD? I'm desperate!

they finally released the pee-wee's playhouse christmas special where grace jones is delivered to pee-wee in a giant crate, then she pops out and performs "little drummer boy". not exactly new stuff from grace, but it's a must-have. nod

well, i'd have to force grace jones into a studio and make her record an album, which would probably also require musicians and engineers and someone to procure miss jones' mountains of cok...erm...fan mail! biggrin

i'll get back to you on this.

I saw her perform at an AIDS Dance-a-thon in NYC years ago. The Dance-a-thon is returning this year (12/11). It'd be cool if she shows up.

And now ladies and gentlemmmannn.... Heeeeere's Grace!

man, that two-disc compass point sessions set is really all i ever need. that's the best of grace, right there. i'd love to see her return to that quality of work, but i think it was all about the time and the place. but she'll always be our beautiful, gorgeous, crazy-ass grace. smile

She has one of those "20th Century Masters" dealies out (well, more her record company than her) and since Best Buy had them on sale for $5, I decided to pick it up and hear what Grace Jones is all about. I know most of the songs and they are alright. It would be cool if she came back. Unfornately, the album will probably be super independent and prehaps even hard to find, maybe even an import only deal.

i noticed there are a few reissues of grace albums in wrecka stows now - they seem to be imports, but they're really affordable. i saw "inside story", "bulletproof heart" and a best-of CD that looked really cool and had some semi-recent tracks on it...only thing is, they're all copy-protected! what's the point if i can't throw a couple of grace tunes on a friend's comp CD now and then? i'm tempted to get 'em anyway, but it kept me from buying 'em the first time around.

Nile Rodgers did a pretty good job with 'Inside Story'. That's the only album I have other than the Compass Point Sessions 2CD.

Stay away from those 20th Century comps. I hate them.

i only have one, for the ohio players. it's awright. i didn't know much of their stuff and i didn't want to spend a lot of money to hear a sampling of their music. the comps are a little cheesy, but they do the trick.

I bought the Diana Ross one maybe two years ago. It had most of the tracks I wanted, but then I saw the real best-of from Motown with more tracks and better liner notes. I quickly sold the one I had and bought that one instead.

It's the whole brand-x, cookie cutter look that I dislike about the 20th Century Masters. They also give consumers the bare minimum which might be why they cost so little.

i know what you mean, i don't like them either. they look cheap and tacky. they need a new look for those things.

That's my favourite of her & it's also timeless.
It could've been released 2day & still B sound fresh.
I used 2 play "Pull up to my bumper" when DJ'ing & it was
a sure floorfiller in the late hours.
Also I really love her version of Astor Piazzolla's tango
"Libertango(I've seen that face before)".

They're good for artists that someone might not be familar with. I have ones from Swing Out Sister and The Gin Blossoms and am happy with them and am not tempted to buy anything else by these artists. Also, in some cases, they contain songs not on offical greatest hits CDs. For example, Vannessa Williams one has "Happiness", not on her offical hits CD. Also, Jody's one has "Off THe Hook", and that's not excatly easy to find on a Jody CD. For the most part they suck, but when Best Buy puts them on for a great price like $5 (I bought them online since I couldn't find them in the stores), I can't resist. I wouldn't pay more than $7 or so for one of them. I can understand your furstration with them. They sort of piss me off when I see them for $11.99. Not worth it! But I figure for $5 I can give Grace a chance and check out some of her hits.

pull up to my bumper is my jam! it is classic and will never sound out dated. i also used to play it when i dj'd but i'm not sure if most people had heard of it as it was a younger croud. it's amazing how many people have never heard her music before.

I always really dug the futuristic funk of her cover of "Demolition Man". I could play that song over and over.
