Pop was an amazing album. Different and not exactly "Pop" but very experimental and it had an edge. The new album needs more of that in my opinion. But seeing them live last year gave me chills. Only Prince and U2 can do that for me.

yeah, i stand by my comment. pop AND zooropa were two of their best. Agreed. I probably like those 3 records better than anything else they've done.

That's the great thing about a band like U2 - they have been going so long yet they can still produce a diverse enough array of styles that some things appeal to one set of fans whilst other fans prefer different stuff entirely.

Did I hear that they were experimenting with drugs when Pop was made? To me that sounds like an album made under the influence of something. Probably why I like it so much. Their last 2 albums just seem so mellow though. I wonder if their best days are behind them. Hmmmm.

i kind of like their current approach. yes, it's pretty safe. but it is very enjoyable. high quality safe. i found a quote from Bono talking about ATYCLB and he was saying how pop and rock are not very good at the moment. people are interested in coming up with 2 or 3 singles, and then filling out an album with padding. he said with ATYCLB they put it together with the intention of making an album of 11 singles. i think they succeded. same with the new album. i wish more people would take that approach. a gem hidden on an album is a great thing, but only if it stands up as a great song of its own.
