I didn't know that The Brothers Johnson just released a new Live CD with bonus DVD!

Look what just came out this week...

'The Brothers Johnson Live: Strawberry Letter 23'

Recorded live in Oakland,California in 2003

"Ain't We Funkin Now"
"I'll Be Good To You"
"Thunder Thumbs and Lightnin' Licks"
"Land Of Ladies"
"Family Affair"
"If You Want Me To Stay"
"Strawberry Letter #23"
"Get The Funk Out Ma Face"
"Word Up"
"Stomp"

It contains a bonus "Live" DVD too! I saw these guys in concert a few years ago,and they're STILL putting on a kickass show like you won't believe!! I'm on my way to the record store lol

You must be a young one lol

The Brothers Johnson are a legendary funk duo from the 70s.They're brothers.Their first four albums were produced by Quincy Jones.Hits include...

"I'll Be Good To You" (1976)
"Strawberry Letter 23" (1977)
"Stomp" (1980)
"The Real Thing" (1981)

I met them a few years ago,and they are cool guys.

The DVD contains the same songs that are on the CD.It's the exact same live performance, from a 2003 outdoor concert in Oakland,California (put on by radio station KBLX).

Put this on your Christmas list,as well as the newly released "Earth Wind and Fire: Live At Montreux" DVD.It's a 1997 live performance, but it also includes EIGHT bonus performances from a 1998 concert.

I saw this and thought about it,but thought it may not be that good.I wanted a show from the heyday. I am rethinking that now.

You can hear sound samples at Amazon. From what I can hear,it sounds like a great show.I saw them in concert a year earlier, and it was an explosive performance. They absolutely rocked! In addition to all the well-known hits, they opened the show with a brand new song called "Grooveless" which, unfortunately,is not on this CD.

Here's a review from Allmusic...

Goldenlane's CD/DVD release of 'Strawberry Letter 23:Live' documents a special live performance by the Brothers Johnson. The Brothers performed live at radio station KBLX's Stone Soul Picnic in Oakland,Ca on Memorial Day 2003,and that's the performance documented here, both on CD (disc one) and DVD (disc two). While the Brothers are long past their prime here,it's nice to have this special performance documented, especially for longtime fans hungry for additional material. This particular performance is most noteworthy for it's covers: a pair of Sly and The Family Stone classics ("Family Affair","If You Want Me To Stay") and Cameo's "Word Up".Overall, this is a nice addition to the Brothers Johnson catalog, even if it's far from essential.

I went to the record store looking for the Brothers Johnson DVD but didn't see it. I did see Earth, Wind, & Fire's DVD though and started to get it. And do you know, I ordered Donna Summer's "Love To Love You Baby" CD right after you told me about it and that damned record store hasn't called me yet! I call them each weekend and it's still not here. You know how long that's been.

The Brothers Johnson CD/DVD can be found in the same area where their CDs are sold.Don't look for it in the "DVD section".It's packaged like a regular CD.
