Carmen Electra!!!

Halle Berry (although, I do love her) Queen Latifah would have been much more believable in Monsters Ball. I don't understand the idea Halle should've been in that movie she just couldn't carry it off.

Britney Spears definitely over rated.

Jennifer Lopez as an actress. She's not a good singer butlooks good in videos and on stage.

It's wierd because I always considered her a feminist role model and just felt like she was a great strong woman who kicked everyone's ass, but I never really thought much about her music. I saw her on tour last summer because my husband forced me to go, and I was really fussy and critical about the show (well, it was four days after seeing Prince, so I was kind of in the Prince mode). But then I started thinking about her and listening more carefully to her music and pulling out her albums, and then I realized that her music is pretty great overall and she really has something to offer us.

She better have something to offer if you have albums (plural)-- she's just a strong woman who licked everone's ass into submission-- what ass-kicking occurred that I've missed?

She's so prevalent and in everyone's face all the time, it's sometimes hard to see her as a songwriter and appreciate that aspect of her. Basically, we take her for granted.

Precisely. With Madonna, you really have to "dig beneath the surface",look past the controversy and the image, and you will find that she really has alot to offer. She's an important artist with a message and a purpose. She's not putting out mindless dance music that doesn't say anything. Her last three CDs contain the most creative and challenging music of her career.

Dig beneath the surface of an idiot and you'll find the soul of an idiot
Dig beneath the surface of a pop icon and find the positioning and marketing $$ behind it.
If you've been digging for 20 yrs., you better find something worthwhile.

What is her message exactly? 20 years of slutholing after a promising start can be redeemed by 5 minutes of finding a stifled artistic voice?

She served a role, letting the chicks know it was alright to express themselves sexually--
Beyond that, lets mot speak of the "artistry of Madonna" on a site dedicated to a real music icon. Creatively, Madonna was very exploratory, influencing the likes of Britney Spears and countless other tarts...
and seeing how you supported the music, you too...

As for music: the list of overrated artists wouldn't fit on one page only!!

i'll add Michael Moore to the list as well. he's quite entertaining, and can weave a good yarn, but passing his last 2 movies off as "documentaries" is pushing it, considering the fabrications and obfuscations.

Her "glory days" are over? Then how do explain her recent tour grossing over $125 million, becoming 2004's most lucrative tour? To me,that's not a sign of a fading career. But go ahead, come up with a silly theory about why she remains so popular, lol.

I totally agree with you on that. Other musically overrated people I'd list are

The Grateful Dead-Booooring

Led zeppelin-ripped off a ton of their riffs...there's more I could say but I'll leave it at that

Green Day-I know plenty of people who disdain "pop-punk" and yet like these guys. I laugh inside at the irony

Lenny Kravitz-He's pretty hated here on the org, but you forget how much the ignorant general public doesn't realize how unoriginal he is

Dr Dre-Snoop Dogg nothing, THIS is the most overrated hip-hop artist of all time. His seminal album is just a bunch of p-funk loop samples with crappy new rhymes, most of which he doesn't even provide. Sure he's produced a lot of people, but that doesn't make him a great producer anymore than Diane Warren is a great songwriter.

Elvis Presley-A great singer, a great performer, but not really an artist. Considering he didn't actually have any part in writing any of his songs (the few credits he was given were purely business negotiations), I hardly think he should be held in as high regard as he is. "undisputed" king of rock n' roll? hardly.

Bob Dylan-Don't get me wrong, he is great, but he's still overrated.

Different strokes...right?
6 out of 7 on this list I consider to be all time favorites of mine. The Dead, Elvis, Dylan & Zep are all musical legends and are loved by MILLIONS and has influenced GENERATIONS. So you are definitely in the minority on THAT opinion.
Green Day has just released the best album of the year imo.
Lenny, while a classic rock copy cat, is undoubtably talented and is a hook/riff master.
...and one more thing about you dissn my Zep...flipped off
Even Snoop...while not a huge fan...I give him respect on having one of the longest careers in hip-hop. Doesn't he have a # 1 song now?

Different strokes indeed. Having a long career doesn't instantly merit respect, nor does popularity. I don't care how many zep fans and deadheads there are, there music doesn't appeal to me. About the riff stealing thing, it is a documented fact that a substantial portion of Zepelion's catalogue had either stolen riffs or uncredited covers. Go warr.org and look them up. As for Dylan, I never disputed that he was great and influential, but he is still overrated in my mind. Someone can be great AND overrated (like the Beatles for example; perhaps the greatest AND most overrated rock band ever). Furthermore, my only point about Elvis was that he was not the best or most important rock performer of his age and he wasn't an important, or even any kind of songwriter. I dig Elvis' music as mush as then next man, but the fact that he wasn't really responsible for it should detract from his status. Furthermore, I think his "undisputed" statud causes other rock n roll legends to be overlooked in comparison (I'm not even just talking about african-american ones either e.g. Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, etc..).

Die Another Day!(which madonna did the theme song to and had a bit part in.)

The movie was very good(come on now.don't front on pierce brosnan being james bond..you know you liked it.)

picking madonna to do the theme song was a good choice.
