While you're feeling industrious, find out if this is a hybrid and will play on regular cd players. Chop chop!

Dual Disc Version (CD & DVD on one disc)

CD Side: Includes entire album in Re-Mastered CD Stereo

DVD Side:

* Video in surround sound and Stereo of "Closer"

* Videos of "March of the Pigs" and "Hurt"

* Entire album in Stereo and Advanced Resolution Surround Sound

* Entire album in Dolby Digital Surround Sound and Stereo

* Image Gallery

* Complete Discography

* Random DVD menus

* Surround Sound mixes by Trent Reznor

It's my understanding that only the Dual Disc version plays on regular CD players, as one side is CD and the other DVD-I don't have it-yet.

So no bonus tracks-but I already have them anyway from years of collecting.

Just found this from one of the reviews at Amazon.com

It's listed in the item info on the SACD version as being Hybrid:

"The dynamics sound that much better and the clarity brings new details out. I played this on a regular CD player (because it is a Hybrid SACD) and while not as good as the SACD mix , it is still much better than the original album by comparison (which I had handy as well)"

Well it is a Hybrid SACD, so it means you could play it on your CD player-just not the same level of sound quality it sounds like.

The Dual Disc doesn't have the extra tracks, but does have the other side's DVD features, which doesn't exactly make sense to me-why not release the bonus tracks in a version that most fans that aren't collectors can have?

So from the looks of it-since the SACD is Hybrid you'd be able to play them, just not in the same quality.

The only one with the videos is the Dual Disc.

Seems like most people are buying both, which is a shame.

If you have to make a 2 CD + 1 DVD set, rather than not only having two different formats but two different tracklistings.

What is this like, "halo sixty-five"? And only three of all those halos have been actual albums?

SACD and Dualdisc are two separate formats but both will play in regular CD players.

In fact, I believe that some Dualdiscs actually have an SACD side as opposed to a CD side.

Isn't there loss of sound quality though as compared to a SACD player?

The deluxe double (SA)CD is the one to go for...
The dual disc CD/DVD thing is just the same but instead of the remixes that you get with the deluxe set on a seperate CD you get a flipper CD/DVD-A with some "Closure" leftovers tacked to it (which will get released again when "Closure" gets release on DVD...)

Well it is a Hybrid SACD, so it means you could play it on your CD player-just not the same level of sound quality it sounds like.

Everything else aside from the 5.1 mix of the album of course, if you have the singles/b-sides already-you'd be buying it again.

The sound quality might be improved though-who knows.

The DVD portion is just stuff we have-and is the way you can listen to the 5.1 surround mix if you don't have SACD.

So instead of having an SACD player, with the Dual Disc you just listen to the 5.1 mix on your setup and enjoy it that way.

I have all the b-sides already save the 3 demos that are the only things previously unreleased in any format.

I also don't have a surround setup so for now I just bought the 3 demos on iTunes to tide me over.

The three in case anyone's unclear:

Ruiner (Demo)

Liar (Reptile Demo)

Heresy (Demo)

Unless you have a great surround setup I'm thinking it's ok to hold off on this for at least a bit unless you just don't have the b-side tracks already.

Can't believe I just said that-I'd love to hear it, but for now this'll do.

thing is, everything was packaged all nifty and sounded pretty spiffy the first time around - this reissue seems pretty superfluous, even if it does have that 5.1 business going on. not that i'm complaining - it's nice to have one less reissue tempting me. lol

With the Bowie stuff alone, you're gonna be broke, Anx!

From what I've read on some NIN message boards, the 5.1 is quite an experience-sounds like Trent's done a great job.

I'd love to hear it-but for now those 3 demos are the only ones I feel like I have to have given the fact I don't have the set-up, and the mere fact that this is already at the 10 year anniversary makes me feel old.

I remember when it first came out!

I think if you have the setup, time and money to appreciate as it should be appreciated in this format you should rush out and buy it now, but if you don't, check out the demos and just do what I am and drooling with jealousy of anyone that's heard it in the new format.

I've heard you hear many new elements in the mix that weren't so strong before.

Evidently the more ambient sounds are pushed up and the vocals aren't so loud so it adds more atmosphere.

I wish he made one complete package though for the people that didn't have the demos or wanted to buy them again if the sound quality was that improved or something.

The videos are ones we've seen-and with Closure coming out hopefully before hell freezes over it's just buying it for the 5.1 mix, which I'd be the first in line to buy like I said if I only had that setup.

oh, CLOSURE i'll definitely buy on DVD, just to have the part with bowie singing "hurt" with NIN and to have all the videos on disc. nod

the bowie reissues are most certainly hitting me hard in the pocketbook, but believe it or not, i've played the bejeezus out of every single one of em...so i 'spose it's worth it.

I loved seeing him in '95 with Trent on the Outside tour-that was just incredible-I'd love to have anything from that alone on DVD.

I've wondered though if it means anything how quickly the reissues were issued after he found out the Bowie bonds didn't go over too well.
