Well, it's had no promotion except through email
I haven't seen any posters in the record stores or anything. When i was at the store it was hiding behind the Nirvana box sets collecting dust.

I think it's because everyone already has half the set a gazillion times over (much like "#1's") and the casual fans aren't going to pay the list price for some demos, unreleased stuff, and so on.

that's not bad for a 5-disc box set with absolutely no promotion. much higher than i'd thought. "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

USA
Number Ones (DVD) is eligible for a TRIPLE PLATINUM certification in the USA since the DVD has shipped over 300,000 units to retail. UK (26/11/04): According to figures released by BPI/Official UK Charts Company, Number Ones was the UK's fifth best selling album of the year (Oct 2003 to Sept 2004.) [Edited 11/27/04 13:58pm]

I like the box set too.....mainly 4 "we've had enough" "on the line" "dangerous"(demo), "we are here to change the world".....and the concert of course!
The other new Michael tracks r growing to though, like "fall again" is pretty nice.....as 4 "cheater"? Sounds like a dry run 4 the far superior "streetwalker", which to me is one of my fav MJ songs at the mo'! still good to get it though Though WHY THE FUCK NO "SERIOUS EFFECT" OR THE STUNNING "FOR ALL TIME"!!! Infact "for all time" didn't even sound quite finished and yet it sounded so gorgeous.....and "serious effect" has the best/most creative use of backng vox (at the beginning of the track) that I have ever heard!

Does it really have anything new outside of some unrealeased material and outtakes of his songs? And is anything on it really worht the purchase? I thought I had enough with HIStory, but what do I know. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Not only did it not have any promotion, not many box sets tend to chart (I mean, how many people could afford it). I don't think anyone expected this album to sell well.

Isnt it funny that for that last 30 years Jacko has promoted himself by The Numbers.. everything is awards & how many sales.
NOW he is trying to run from His Numbers The Ultimate Collection (4 CD/1 DVD) - Cumulative USA Soundscan sales as of November 26th, 2004: 9,200 units. 9,200 units sold.. what a BOMB!! He cant even sell his old shit to the public anymore.

This boxset is mostly made out of stuff that has been given to the public many times over. Plus it has had little to no promotion (few boxsets do). Not even MJ fans expected it to chart well. Look back through history and box sets have never set the world on fire in terms of sales. It's a collectors thing.

Invincible, Number Ones and Ultimate collection sales are nothing compared to Thriller, Off the Wall, Bad, HIStory. Though i blame Sony entirely because they put no promotion into anything by him anymore. I did hear on the news though that MJ was seriously upset with his sales of the Ultimate Collection.

Why should he have to live up to those standards though? He is 46 years old and has had a career that has lasted over 30 years. Nobody gets on Madonnas back when she doesn't sell 20 million lol.MJ can't sell 20 million anymore and I don't expect him to. It would be nice if he could prove me wrong, but I don't see it happening. Invincible did at least 8 million worldwide. That's great by any other artists standards. Especially for a guy known all around the world as a freak show and possible peadophile. About MJ being upset about sales of the box set... I haven't heard a thing about it.

What I want to know is why is it that that when this happens to other artists the valid excuse/fault is regarding how the internet/file swapping has caused a slump in record sales for everyone - but MJ always seems to be exempt from this reason and is accused of being a flop or can no longer sell records - it's effected everyones sales "Worldwide"!!!

You obviously were sleeping during the releases of "american life" and "damita jo" weren't you? People got all over Madonna's back and Janet's about how poor their record sales were. But it's more centered on Michael because compared to madonna his record sales were phenominal. I dont think any of Madge's albums sold over 20 million in the states at least. And they indeed did say MJ was upset.

I haven't heard AL, but I would put at least some of the failure of Damito Jo down to it being a terrible album. Worse then AFY. Who is they? And don't say Roger Friedman lol.

And the booklet is to die for. I hope eventually, they'll get the Bad tour and HIStory tour on dvd. Who is they? And don't say Roger Friedman lol.
My local news anchors I dunno if it's true or not though, you can never be sure when people discuss MJ

I have not seen it promoted at all. I only found out about it through Prince.org.
I want it just for the DVD though, I don't have that concert anymore. I downloaded "Sunset Driver" and downloading "PYT demo" now...I'm not cheating myself out, but I have most of these trax already. I cant wait to get it for Christmas or something...the book should be cool too. I almost creamed ma draws when I saw it with my own eyes! Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

The guy is on trial for child molestation. This debut is not a suprise (and sorry MJ fans...this is a bomb). He is considered a freak and a joke to the general public. The guy needs to go away for awhile until all this ends and stay away from the spotlight. Its the only possible way he'll ever be "popular" again.
I was a fan until Bad and still love his older stuff. I wish he would just go away, reurn to earth, and come back like his old bad self.

Even though i would like to have the DVD I'm gonna wait. It is just too expensive.
I have to say 'Cheater' is one funky ride. Imagine it would have replaced 'Just good friends' (sorry, Stevie). BlueNote

So here we go with the official UK chart stats.... UK The Ultimate Collection (4 CD/1 DVD) - UK Top 75 Album Chart Week #1 (28/11/04): #75 The Ultimate Collection (4 CD/1 DVD) - UK R&B Album Chart Week #1 (28/11/04): #10 Note: (26/11/04): According to figures released by BPI/Official UK Charts Company, Number Ones was the UK's fifth best selling album of the year (Oct 2003 to Sept 2004.) I couldn't find the MJ set at Meijer but they had several copies of the Bon Jovi set...also, more places put it for sale, even though Best Buy charged a lot less for the MJ set at their stores. I'm not an MJ defending and yes, this bos set bowing so low is not good but I'm shocked that box sets sell well enough to chart at all. Good for Bon Jovi (I know the Beatles had one out as well, and I'm sure that must have done well).
