also, it's not ClearChannel's fault that this album is selling well. well, not completely. it is their fault that people are hearing the singles incessantly, but they aren't taking them by the hand and walking them to the record store with a gun pointed at their back demanding that they buy the latest expanded deluxe special edition of the last 3 Usher albums. they're merely doing their job. playing the songs. if people like it, they go buy it. if a lot of people are buying it every week, it tells the radio station that there's demand for this album, so they play the songs more. it's a spiral, downward spiral or not being in the eye of the beholder. i'm sure we'd all be pissing ourselves like epileptic chihuahuas if ClearChannel was blasting "Musicology" or "Cinnamon Girl" 15,000 times a day on each channel (sort of like radio was doing with "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy" in 1984).


and in the end, it doesn't matter how much a label pushes an artist, and album, or song to a station. the station is only there for one reason: to make money. yes, there's that idealistic hogwash that they're there to "serve the public interest" by licensing the publicly-owned airwaves, blah blah blah. but really, people get into owning/operating stations for one reason: to make money. which means selling airtime to advertisers. which means having an audience to sell to the advertisers. which means having on-air content that a large audience wants to hear. which means playing the same shitty songs 80 times in every 3-hour air cycle.


when people don't want to hear it, they tune out. the station loses audience. it loses ad revenue. and then it either gets its act together and gives the audience what it wants... or more likely changes format or owners.

People love crap...

Usher's album is good. I understand why it's selling well.

And to top it off, he has a new song with Lil Jon and Ludacris that is blowing up the charts already. The song is REALLY nice so you might be hearing Usher's voice on the radio for a while. This new song is going to be really big!

It's pop music, but that doesn't mean that the music sucks, well IMO anyway. I think that his album is really good.

I'm not surprized by this at all. What a load of shit. Not to say that I don't like some of the songs in the hot 100 because I'd be a liar if I said I didn't but the top 10 are so predictable and the next 10 are not much different. In fact, the top 10 songs are a joke. I would never buy any of this shit.

Ricky Martin had 1 hot album in the US. and quickly felloff after the second single from it. Usher's had a few hit albums now, and several hit songs over the last 7 years. like it or not (and i don't, particularly), he's got a few years under his belt already, and likely has a few more.
