hey

I've bought this album a couple of weeks ago cause i got tired of hearing everybody say it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Even though I really enjoy the album and think it's a very strong showing...I don't see why people keep saying it's like the best album ever and stuff like that. I think it's good but I don't think it can stand toe to toe with for example...the velvet's debut album, the doors, lou reed's transformer, ziggy stardust,...So what am I missing here...why is this album such a huge deal?

i think it is [/b]one of the greatest albums...in the top ten, the wonderful melodys brian wilson has on this album make it up there with the very best and it contains one of the greatest songs ever written....."god only knows" ...still gives me the chills ever time i listen to it....its a brilliant album....and "smile" is a great album too.

imagine "pet sounds" with "good vibrations" included as he was originally going to do.....there would be no argument if that song had been included.

Besides that , imo Sgt. Pepper is overrated
although it IS good , but surely not their best

st pepper is not the beatles best album, musicially, revolver or abbey road are superior..... as a whole package, concept,structure..... st pepper is one of the greats.

i'm not great fan of the Beach Boys, or even Pet Sounds itself (i've heard it a few times), but i recognize how revolutionary it was for the way popular music is made and what is expected of it, at its best.

Is it right that the whole album only lasts 33.05 minutes ?
(i downloaded it as 1 track , and it doesn't have trackinfo either ,
that kinda sucks)

(I know that many albums from back then have a much shorter playing time
than albums nowadays)


Also the sequence of the songs is different from the remastered version

it's true Pet Sounds inspired the Beatles (Paul McCartney who was present at the recording of several cuts from the Pet Sounds album) to go beyond the barrier that Brian Wilson created at that time.Wislon in turn was inspired by the Revolver album to create Pet Sounds.. go figure
just listen to the music and the harmonies of the voices... Now imagine you're in 1966!! Yeah that's right it sounds really new and lots of new ideas too! the music is a world of it's own.Listening to it these days is still an experience, it shows us that creativity is a force to be reckoned with.

I used to think the Beach Boys were a very dated cliche sound but I love that record. The songs are beautiful and its beautifully made. Best ever ?? Does it matter ??

Sometimes I think the story behind the album (Marvin's Here, My Dear), or the fact that it inspired some other legendary album (Pet Sounds, meet Sgt. Pepper) is all it takes to impress some listeners. As if they're supposed to be impressed by it because of consequential circumstances of the making of the work, which in turn makes them discuss those circumstances over the work itself a lot of the time.

Im more interested in knowing how they drove 4 perfectly good guitar players completely bonkers over the years
