Your favourite new cds for 2004

now that the year is drawing to a close (thank god), what were your favourite cds of this year?
mine were:
1. Mos Def - The New Danger
2. U2 - How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
3. Prince - Musicology
4. ....

gee i think that is it. wow. what a dull year.
i heard a lot of old stuff that i loved like Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Bob Marley, Quincy Jones/Bill Cosby but that's it.

I think everyone overlooked Sonic Youth's "Nurse" album. Great album in my opinion, but I don't think they can maintain recognition with all of this teenie bopper albums coming out.

Delgados - Universal Audio. This is probably my least favourite Delgados release to date, but that's only because I think their last two albums were honest-to-god masterpieces - The Great Eastern and Hate were like dream combinations of Belle and Sebastian, Flaming Lips, Abbey Road-era Beatles and E.L.O. They've scaled back their ambition on this record, but when it's on, this is a stunningly beautiful album. This is a criminally overlooked band. If there is any justice in the world, the Great Eastern will one day have the kind of reputation that Love's Forever Changes now enjoys.

Here's my list of fave CDs of 2004:

Frou Frou - Details
Lamb - Best Kept Secrets - The Best Of Lamb 1996-2004
Elliott Smith - From A Basement On The Hill
Kayne West - The College Dropout
Bjork - Medulla
Kool Keith - Diesel Truckers
Kool Keith - Doctor Octagon Pt. 2
Teena Marie - La Dona
Ween - Live In Chicago
Lenny Kravitz - Baptism
N.E.R.D. - Fly Or Die
Janet Jackson - Damita Jo
Van Hunt - Van Hunt
John P - Hologram E.P. razz cool
Brian Wilson - Smile
George Michael - Patience
Prince - Musicology
Zap Mama - Ancestry In Progress

I bought a few more than that, but they're not my favourites, like Green Day and the Streets latest album. Also, I haven't got the Nirvana box set yet and I am SURE that will end up being my fave release of 2004.

scissor sisters
nick cave & the bad seeds - abbatoir blues/lyre of orpheus

favey reissues:

talking heads - the name of this band is talking heads (finally!!!)

pavement - crooked rain, crooked rain (this is what a reissue should look and sound like. everyone else should be taking notes.)

bowie - aladdin sane (i'd say diamond dogs - the sound of the reissue was great and i liked the gatefold inner sleeve - but i thought overall the packaging was all kinds of shoddy and the bonus disc coulda been shown more love)

That's a 2003 album. I was going to include it too, as I bought it this year, but it was actually released in 2003 so...does it count?
