And Mercy Mercy Me.

Then there's I Heard It Through The Grapevine and How Sweet It Is, too.

I'll b very interested as 2 C what the 23 Beatles songs r.
I don't really know what the premise was in putting this list
2gether..but if songs like 'Love me do', 'She loves you & 'I want to hold your hand' are 'all' included I find it a bit odd, because (2 me at least) they r the same 'musical' statement & their cultural resonance is interchangeable ..so therefore I think it undermines a list that aimes 2 b a 'comprehensive' one.. . Not that any such list can b comprehensive biggrin but still...u know.. .

As 4 Bowie, like 'Sound & Vision', anyone? cool

64 She Loves You
16 I Want to Hold Your Hand
184 Please Please Me
139 I Saw Her Standing There
289 Can't Buy Me Love
153 A Hard Day's Night
384 Ticket to Ride
29 Help!
23 In My Life
83 Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
13 Yesterday
463 Rain
137 Eleanor Rigby
76 Strawberry Fields Forever
362 All You Need Is Love
26 A Day in the Life
449 Penny Lane
304 With a Little Help From My Friends
8 Hey Jude

This list was a little bit more tolerable than their 500 albums list. Imagine should've been above Bob Dylan and the Stones. shrug that's just me though. And I think "Hey Ya" and "Lose Yourself" is recieving a little too much credit. "Hey Ya" (180) above "Green Onions"...and other classic songs. eek . In the end, it's just a list made up of other's opinions, so I shouldn't get bent out of shape over it.

look, i love the beatles to death, but this shit's just crazy.

I hate to play the contrarian all the time, but...

My belief is just that this is a reflection of the fact that the Beatles musical legacy continues to tower over everything that’s been created since their day. They wrote and recorded several dozen perfect pop songs that have become standards in a fairly short period of time. I honestly feel that, if anything, they’re probably under-represented on this list, as another 23 Beatles songs of equal quality could easily have been dropped into it.

The Beatles stand above every other popular music artist of the second half of the century IMO. I don’t see the Rolling Stones or Bob Dylan as being their peers. The Beatles peers are Cole Porter, Louis Armstrong, Irving Berlin - genuine artists who've created a body of work that will transcend the trends of their time.

i'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but let's remember that this list isn't claiming to be the "500 most important and influential rock & roll songs of all time."

it's just "the best." a great song can be completely, culturally insignificant, derivative, cliched, corny, overplayed, etc. this list is comprised of "the ones everybody likes"

I'm sure you could easily find two or four more songs of theirs that would belong on that list razz

btw, which Prince songs were on there?

I would've added Space Oddity and Ashes To Ashes at the very least.

i'm surprised that Fame isn't there. Life On Mars?, Rebel Rebel and Sufragette City seem like obvious additions as well.

Actually it was written by Bacharach and Hal David and it is not even Warwick's best song, much less the 70th best song EVER. Her best, IMHO, is Theme from The Valley Of the Dolls. Even Say a Little Prayer is WAY better than the supper schmaltzy Walk on By. I could be wrong, however. I'll check it out with the Psychic Friends Network and get back to you.

Hendrix really got dissed on this list. It is a real quaint list of picks. If you notice, a lot of the judges are record execs. And, most of the songs on the list were big hit singles, not just good songs. Nothing really obscure on the list. Good to see, "A Change Gonna Come" so high on the list. Have to agree with that one.

Nirvana get overrated once again. Smells Like Teen Spirit in the top ten!! Shocking. Do you know how many punk bands they borrow from?
