the wait for the best release of 2004 is almost over! after so many great, classic, required-to-be-in-your-collection records...
they've gone home and dreamt it all up again... [Edited 11/21/04 13:10pm] [Edited 11/21/04 19:36pm]

"Pop" is listed twice. From what I heard, it shouldn't even be listed once.

This is the longest we've had to wait as U2 fans. I know it's gonna be worth it though. Very excited. Anybody have the singles yet?

The thing that's most ironic about their "ironic period" is that it's the most heartfelt, personal and emotional of their work. They turned over a new leaf with Achtung Baby! that allowed them to open up and include more about themselves in their subject matter.

It seems the tide has turned recently though. Achtung Baby! seems to have overtaken The Joshua Tree in most people's minds as their masterpiece. I'd have to agree.

I'd have to agree. absolutely. its kind of funny...when i was a kid i tried to be as different from my oldr brother as possible. he loved u2 so i, therefore, hated them. secretly i liked them but i was a dumb 10 year old trying to be different so i acted like a didn't. this went on for quite a while...until rattle and hum. then i kind of admitted to liking them. then achtung baby came out and i fessed up to my brother and borrowed all his cds!!

Joshua Tree was one of the first tapes I ever owned. My mom gave it to me for Easter in either '87 or '88. But it wasn't until Achtung Baby! that I really fell in love with this band. I think it will always be my favorite of theirs for more reasons than I care to mention.

Rumor has it that Larry Mullen Jr. has been "re-recording" Pop in his spare time. The band was never satisfied with that cd, as they had to release it before they were finished. I'm not really excited by this prospect, though, because I love the album the way it is. Moreover, the remixed Pop songs on the greatest hits are all too "safe" for me. I'm sure I'd pick it up anyway if it ever saw the light of day. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

i've never heard that before. i know larry was not thrilled with all of the electronic stuff on zooropa and pop (he said in interviews - at the time - that he felt kind of pointless in the band since so much was programming) but i never heard that the cd was rushed. quite the opposite, actually. from what i've always understood, they took so long on the cd that they rushed the tour because they had set deadlines and didn't want to push it back at all. I think both were rushed, but the CD had to be released because the tour was behind in production. I think they missed at least 2 deadlines for the album launch, and couldn't hold off any longer. I also think this is the reason for the numerous singles that were remixed from the album. U2 rarely re-records songs for singles, but apart from Discoteque and Staring at the Sun, every other single on the album was re-recorded (Please, If God..., The Last Night on Earth).

altho i don't own War nor The Unforgettable Fire (i know shame on me) my faves in order are:
The Joshua Tree Pop Achtung Baby - Love Is Blindness is possibly the greatest thing ever recorded. Rattle And Hum How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb Zooropa Passengers actually i think Pop and TJT tie for first.

I'm not sure that I like the single mix of 'Please' better, but I do like it a lot. It's one of my favorite overall U2 songs. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.
