Predict the Grammy Nominees

Ok, so the noms are announced December 7. Who do you think the academy's going to favor this year (they always find someone)?

I think:

-Usher (for no apparent reason other than that he sold a shitload of trashy records)
-Alicia Keys (quite deservedly, IMHO....I hope If I Ain't Got You gets a record of the year nom)
-U2 (will they still be nominating stuff from All That You Can't Leave Behind?)

probably. i'll add Prince.

no. and not even the 2 new songs from best of 1990-200, and nothing from the new one. Oct 1, 2003-Sept 30, 2004 are the dates covered by next year's Grammys

Yeah, I know, but it seemed like U2 got nominated for about 3 years in a row for that record. wink

I just wanted to say; yada yada yada.

And then you came along. Prizes given by the industry suck (see "Oscars") and prizes by the public are whack (see MTV Music Awards).

REAL cool peeps never show up on lists. Unless it's The Mercury Prize.

Hehehe. And Franz Ferdinand RULES!

Because even worse than an artist scorned for her true songbook are the petty pity awards...like, "let's give her an award cuz she sold more products and cuz we still can beofre she falls over."

ummm... nevermind the fact that it's truly amazing piece of work, on top of those things.

This is probably going to be one of the most dissapointing years for the Grammys considering how dissapointing most of the new releases were this year.

The Grammy committee disappoints even when it's a good year for music. I haven't expected anything good from them since I was a kid.

Billie Holiday was GUTTER before it even had a name. She was a real gritty 'round-the-way chic,,,,don't let stereotypes lead you to believe that she was a prissy lil' Ashly Lady now.

Prince has a real shot at album of the year for Musicology.

Beyond that, i'm not sure. the U2 album isn't eligible, it's released too late.

I think Usher's Confessions, based on sheer popularity, will get a nomination for best album, like Justin Timberlake did. Although Usher's album isn't nearly as good as Justins.

I agree that Loretta Lynn will do well on the country side, we'll see if that translates to other categories like best album.

new artist could be interesting - maroon 5? los lonely boys? joss stone?

PRINCE, will definitely get nods this upcoming year at the Grammy's and I also expect a win or two for 'Musicology'.

I'm not to sure of a performance, being that he opened the show this year!
It would seem a bit tacky if he did in 2005!

Maybe perform at BillBoard Awards or Peoples Choice, but Grammys...he probably won't!

It would be hard for them to nominate Joss Stone considering she's been out for a few years already. But it's not like they had a problem giving the award to Paula Cole years after her debut.

I was pretty shocked to say the least when Lauryn Hill went home with 5 GRAMMIES back in 98/99.

When I saw her showing up, I chuckled & said "I love you baby, but those mofos will give you the boot. Get outta there!" and then *WAKADA!* 5 grammies shocked

I had a good time watch the grammies that year to be honest. Thought that they were fair at last!

After that I HATED their guts when they humilated India Arie. And the fact that Jill Scott doesn't have a grammy to her name yet? Whateva treva disbelief

-Ursher will get the most nominations.
-Destiny's Child will be nominated for best R&B album, and "Smell My Breath" will be nominated.
-In a strange stroke of luck, Ashlee will be nominated -- along with Hillary Duff.
-Alicia Keys & Usher will pick up a grammy for "My Boo" or "If I Ain't Got You"
-Janet will be snubbed. Super Bowl will still be fresh in their minds. Even though "All Nite (Don't Stop)" could've gotten a Best Dance Recording nod.
-Anita Baker will perform and win something.
-Queen Latifah's jazz album will be nominated.
-Either Franz Ferdinand or the Scissor Sisters will be nominated in Best Rock category.
-U2 will perform and win something, as always.
-Eminem will perform.

Sounds like good predictions but I highly doubt Hilary Duff will get a nod (I don't think this album did well at all, compared to her last one, although I think she'll stick around for a few more years with limited sucess). Also, I have an idea Janet will get a sole nod for "All Nite" as dance reocord, if not a win, but that's it!

I read in ESSENCE that India.Arie cried for days after that show! Her mother couldn't even console her. The girl was a mess. It trips me out because she always talks about how she's non-materialistic and isn't into the "glitter and gold." Yet, that chick was bent over on the floor bawling when she wasn't recognized for her music.

That would be decent, but you know what, F**k the Grammys. Janet doesn't need the c**ksuckers. Let Justina Timberfake have 'em.
