My eyes are green/ Cause I eat a lot of vegetables

It don't have nothing to do with your new friend- Miss Badu

damn damn damn this song is wonderful....never listened to the lyrics before but as i was typing away at work this song came on girlbros. radio and blew me away.....i guess it helps that i am going through a similiar situation with my own relationship...but my how this woman conveys all the mixed emotional levels one goes through during that uncertain part of a relationship where it could end or grow stronger...

sigh

favorite badu song...EVER!

ERYKAH BADU LYRICS

"Green Eyes"

My eyes are green
Cause I eat a lot of vegetables
It don't have nothing to do with your new friend
My eyes are green
Cause I eat a lot of vegetables
It don't have nothing to do with your new friend

I don't care, I swear
I'm too thru with you I am
You don't mean nothing to me
So go ahead and be with your friend

My eyes are green
Cause I eat a lot of vegetables
It don't have nothing to do with your new friend
My eyes are green
Cause I eat a lot of vegetables
It don't have nothing to do with your new friend

I'm insecure
But I can't help it
My mind says move on
My heart lags behind
But I don't love you any more
I'm so insecure
Never knew that love did this
Ooh, ooh

I can't remember the last time I felt this way
About somebody
You've done something to my mind
And I can't control it
But I don't love you any more
Yes I do, I think
Loving you is wrong baby
Ooh, ooh

La-di-da
Dum-dee-da-da
Dum-didi-da-da-da
Dum-didi-da-dum-di

I'm so confused
You tried to trick me yeah
Ooh, ooh, oh
Never knew that love could hurt like this
Never thought I would but I got dissed
Makes me feel so sad and hurt inside
Feel embarrased so I want to hide
Silly me I thought your love was true
Change my name to Silly E. Badu
Before I heal, it's gonna be a while
I know it's gonna be a while, chile

[ad-libs]

I hope it's not too late
Too late, too late, too late
Feeling insecure
Your love has got me sore
I don't want no more

Oh, oh
It's too late, oh, oh ooh, ooh
I'm sorry I love you
At first it was cool
You told me you loved me too, ooh
And then you lost your love
And then you lost your love
And then you lost your love
You wanted me to go away
But I can't go
See I can't leave, it's too late
I can't leave, it's too late
I can't leave, it's too late
I can't leave, it's too late

Just make love to me
Just one more time and then you'll see
I can't believe I made a desparate plea
Believe me yeah, ye-ah, no, oh
You see I can't leave, it's too late
I can't leave, it's too late
Don't you know, I can't leave, it's too late
Can't go no where, no
It's too late
It's too late
It's too late
It's too late yeah
Come on babe

Don't you want be strong with me
You told me we could have a family
Want to run to me when you're down and low
But times get tough and there you go
Out the door, you wanna run again
Open your arms and you'll come back in
Wanna run cause you say your afraid, afraid

Never knew what a friendship was
Never knew how to really love
You can't be what I need you to
And I don't know why i fuck with you

I know our love will never be the same
But I can't stand the growing pains

One word to describe that gem "INTENSE" nod

Notice how she whispers the word "thank you" at the end, it was really a choker moment.

I agree. This song is fuckin heartbreaking. I love the transition in the middle and how it turns from one song into a completely different tune. Erykah Badu is an amazing artist. Thank you God for gifting that woman worship

eek

thank you baby for the gift....i have been mucho busy dealing with a cousin who was in a horrible car accident...

and then there is my papi....ugghhh!!! badu tells my story to a tee. yet in this case the "friend" is a friend and im just being a psycho...

or am i hmm

lol

funny you mention it though cause i was thumbing through it this morning and i told myself to bring one to work....but when i finally left for work i was rushing and forgot a crap load of stuff (including tons of stuff on the counter that i had removed from the frig to throw out..so im looking foward to the smell when i get home. lol ) can you tell how my life has been the past couple weeks?

and its the seques (sic?)...how the first transition starts so simple yet elegantly with the change in tone on the word "friend".

it aint got nothing to do with your new.....friend.

Damn, the whole thing is intense.

This & L-Boogie's unplugged strucked me profoundly. I relate to it so much, like the lyrics of Bag Lady goes:

Bag lady you gone hurt your back
Dragging all them bags like that
I guess nobody ever told you
All you must hold on to
Is you, is you, is you

Simple and not much but DIRECT and soooo goddamn true.

As much as I love Erykah Badu (bow down to the queen)

worship

and Mama's Gun is definately one of my all time favorite albums, I always have to skip this track because it gets me all emotional and shit. It's a bit intense for me. I'm one jealous mofo...
