Got the latest venture "AllAboutTheFunk" and it is excellent

I was devastated when N'Dea Davenport left the band. That devastation has lingered. Thankfully N'Dea did release a solo album but that was 7 years ago. Without a doubt she has one of the purest, freshest and most amazing voices in the music world and it's a crime that she isn't releasing music. It's what she was born to do. She was the gas to the bands engine. She brought out the best in that band and the band brought out the best in her. Twas one of the most amazing combinations of creativity and talent ever. The album Brother/Sister is salvation itself. Look no further for proof of their brilliant chemistry.

BNH replacing her with Saida Garret was a disaster. It was like trying to replace gas with water. It just didn't work. I mean if you are gonna replace a voice like N'Dea, you can't throw in mediocrity and expect it to work. I'm not slamming on Saida as a person or an artist. I personally feel that her voice is just not the kind of voice this band needed after losing N'Dea. It's flat and boring in context to what this band is all about. Saida is much better off as a solo artist. With that said, if The Brand New Heavies released 20 albums with Saida as the lead I would buy each and every single one of them. I will always support this band no matter who fronts it. As much as I did not like Saida as the replacement there were several songs off that album that I really did love. Saida, I'm giving you props girl

This new album freakin rocks. The new singer is worthy of wearing N'Deas shoes. Her name is Nicole Russo. Her voice is very different from N'Deas but it's original and strong. If I were to compare her voice I'd say she sounds like a tightened up version of Joss Stone. But that's not to say she's a copy cat, on the contrary she has got her own voice for sure. The band is kickin some killer music and Nicole kicks just as hard. I found this as an import so those in the USA probably gotta scout around for it. I highly recommend it. Seriously, BNH fans shouldn't be disappointed.

So this is a new album? The last album "We Won't Stop" just came out last summer. That album was a huge let down as it was missing the grooves that made the first two heavies albums so great. It would be cool to see them return to form. But I can't find a listing of the album you are talking about anywhere.

I had not heard of that album, probably because it would be an import just like this one. As you can see, I practically worship miss Davenport and I am not disappointed in this album. It's great The voice and the musicianship. It's all there

I got to thinking....don't let the Joss Stone comparison throw you off if you're not a fan of hers. It was the closest comparison I could think of as far as the range she sings in. This chick mostly sings in lower registers but she sounds fantastic. This CD has been spinning almost non-stop since I got it.

I thought there were more heavy fans on this site

Anywho, this album is great. I hate to say this about one of the bands that provided me so much inspiration but I went into this expecting to be disappointed and I was happy to discover that they still had that magic.

I'm going to check out this album.

I dig "Boogie" -- both the original and the Eric Kupper mix.

I would love to hear how N'Dea would have pulled off this album. The band definitely either went in a different direction musically to fit Nicole's vocal range and vocal style or her she inspired them with her voice. The thing I really like about this album is that they kinda broke ground from their expected formula. I really dig this chick. I'd say she stands nearly on equal ground with N'Dea as far as what she brings to the table. Love her voice. If this is the kind of album they continued to churn out, I could rest a lot easier not having N'Dea front the band. Although I do wish she'd come back at least for one more album. It kills me that she isn't putting out music

The 'Slam' mix of 'Stay This Way' still kicks arse.

I didn't mind Seidah Garret at all with BNH. Sure, she made them sound a little more like adult contemporary than funk, but she has a great voice nonetheless. This new lead singer, I'm real iffy about. I agree she sounds a bit like Joss Stone, but unfortunately I can't stand Joss Stone's voice and her warbling forced melisma, lol.

N'Dea Davenports solo album was also great, I hope she releases something again soon.

I didn't know that BNH released another new album between this and Shelter. I have seen several compilations surface over the years that were basically greatest hits packages with a few rarities, remixes, and demos thrown in.

Anyone remember the Heavy Rhyme Experience??? good stuff...

I only brought up Joss Stone to give people a comparison of the range this Russo chick sings in. I did not like Seidah, I thought she was weak for this band. I had no idea that there was an album between either. Still want to get it even though most people said it sucked.

I picked up all their little side projects including heavy Rhyme and Excursions. Both great comps All I know is that I have not stopped spinning this album since I got it. It's funky and it sounds like the band actually enjoyed making it. I do dig this chick's voice but nothing will compare to the flawless Davenport.

did you see where I worshipped N'Dea above???? She doesn't hold a candle compared to miss Davenport but I'm simply saying that this release is satisfying to me and I wept tears of blood when N'Dea left the band. It aint all it could be but it's way better than I thought

Underrated Band. I'll have to go to Tower records this weekend to find their new cd.

No no no. That sound is gone. But this album is funky and it's fun and I'm loving it. Those first 2 albums, especially Brother Sister, I don't think they'll ever touch those.....unless they got back with N'Dea.
