great body great legs... but i wouldn't call her a classic beauty... the just the one the hype machine is behind now... much like Britney 99-01 J Lo 00-03 Beyonce 02-05... new girl will replace... it's a machine kinda like porn... after so many movies people are tired of seeing you and move on to the new flavor... i don't think britney is beautiful, she is like a barbie doll. i think that's true that beyonce has changed her look to like white people, but the main reason i think she's beautiful is because of her legs, these are the prettiest that i've ever seen. i think nora is attractive but she doesn't have a body so great, well she doesn't need it, she is more talented than beyonce.

I think that Kelly has an understated beauty. I love her natural, no blow-out, hair right now. She might be wearing extensions though. Also, I think Alicia Keys is beautiful, and Lauryn Hill is stunning. Nora Jones is very attractive, too. Ohhhh, I had to come back to add Ms. Janet Jackson: at age 38, the woman is still gorgeous!

To me, Beyonce is definitely beautiful but a bit over made-up.
Of course, these opinions are from a woman's perspective. I agree that the "Barbie-doll" look probably appeals to a lot of guys more so than women.

I'm a straight woman, and I LOVE Beyonce.

She makes it into my favorite quintet of the most beautiful women living now: Beyonce, Naomi, Jessica (I love Jessica Simpson!), Robin Givens, Vanessa Williams.

Anyway here's why.

1. Charisma/Magnetism

(Alicia doesn't have this, neither does Michelle or Ashanti. J.lo used to have it, but has lost it. Norah and Kelly have a little, but Beyonce has it in spades like no other contemporary that I can think of)

2. Very feminine
(before her, i think urban female performers were still in baggy clothes and street wear trying to be hard like men. She reinvented how hip pop girls could dress. She brought femininity back, but not submissively. Her womanliness overwhelms and is very powerful. As a woman, that's one thing I really like. My love for her is in great measure a praise for her feminine expression.

3. Doesn't let her beauty and feminity keep her from trying to be a 'baby thug' (her words)

I'm not into this whole hood culture, but Beyonce loves flirting with it and contrasting it with her conservative, suburban persona. You see her acting streetish, but even that doesn't ruin her effect because she is soo beautiful. (and she doesn't come off like a dude, as Alicia does when she's trying to be street)

4. Statuesque -- Beyonce is pretty tall and her hourglass figure is hot. She's lost a lot of weight since she first came on the scene which makes her look great. She has a large frame, but that just makes her look more womanly. I think her thinner, more svelte look has made her soar in popularity -- more so than the carmel skin and blondish hair.

5. Fashion -- This girl can make rags look good (and thanks to Tina, often has to ). When she wants to this girl can strut like a model. Couture loves her body. She can stand with elegance and glamour, effecting old Hollywood when she wants to ... which brings me to my next point.

6. Old Glamour -- She brought back big hair and over the top style/presence. While everyone's trying to "keep it real' ugh!, She's creating a very unreal other-era presence that drips in luxury and stardom. Diva? Yes! She's not just the girl next door. Alicia, Michelle, and Kelly are. Even J.lo is becoming too common in her push to be anti-diva.

7. Talent.
This is not in order of importance. Her talent is a major draw. She's can't speak well , but when she's on stage, she works it. OMG, she gives the best shows. You fear she's going to jerk her body into a knot. She can dance, sing, and vogue. Plus, she really has the insight to write lyrics that shape/reflect current hip pop culture. Her finger is on the pulse. When the club scene was hot, she came out with jumpin, jumpin that captured it perfectly. Tunes like Bills, Say My Name, Bootylicious, That's how you like it etc. -- all captured a moment in pop culture very well.

8. Originality.
Before Beyonce, no one in Hip pop had a really fast, almost egyptian delivery. She has her own vocal cadence that sounded weird at first but has now become the shit. Everyone's trying to copy her. In fact, Alicia Keys sounds like her in one song I recently heard. Oh and Alicia tries to shake it like Beyonce, too. On Making the Band, producers (or maybe Puffy?) told Sarah to sound more like Beyonce. LOL! How many people can say they created a new vocal style? Who new there was another vocal style out there to be had? Well, Beyonce did.

YOu know, sometimes i hear her cadence and all the words she tries to jam into a line (another signature) and I think that's too many words --- nobody is going to like this. I felt that way about Crazy in Love and Lose My Breath ... but look how these blew up. Crazy! This girl is a trend-setter.

9. Image.
Her hair now is really too blond. I actually don't like it. Her best hair color was in the early solo era when Crazy in Love came out. It was a brownish-blond color. I think she looks prettier with lighter hair because there is less contrast. J.lo went light too after her debut, and good. Those dark hair and eyebrows weighed down her face. With Beyonce, I think light brown or even the red she had in the Naughty Girl video are her colors. They really mesh with her skin tone and features.

Anyway, yes, she is Barbie doll like -- the best example is the first Pepsi video when she is at the gas station. That's the first time advertisers tried to sell us Beyonce as Barbie ... and she looked hot. This is after Pepsi had given us Britney as Barbie. Beyonce looked hotter!! Yes, hotter than Brit.

I think her skin color is a part of that. She has a carmel complexion that people use bleach or risk skin cancer under the sun to achieve. It's unfortunate that color matters this much, but it's deep in the human psyche. It's the American blend, popular since slavery. She's Creole, and you know the old infatuation with that.


It's weird. Many people didn't perceive black woman as beautiful until she came along, but they love Beyonce. In a way she reinforces a stereotype that the most beautiful blacks approximate white features. (Halle Berry is another example of this ... I really don't think she's pretty. I saw her in Boomerang and men were going gaga. I'm like what's so hot about Halle. She's just light., Robin Givens was by far the most beautiful creature in that movie, no offense to Grace who was also hotter than Halle. Halle's facial features if you look closely are pretty blah. Nothing striking or unusual in her face. She's very common looking to me.).

Any, back to Beyonce being near white. Why should I hate Beyonce for that. Her grandfather was a Frenchman. She is what she is. And she's gorgeous.

I like a range of skin hues, and I think beyond her color, her essence and features are beautiful. She did Oprah after the Suberbowl with very little makeup. Still hot! (don't take britney anywhere without makeup, though).

I couldn't give a fuck about her and I think that looks mean nothing when it comes to music. I am so fucking sick of all "musicians/singers" having to be pretty or good looking or sexy in order to be popular, or, in the case of rap, "street" or "gangsta (sic)" or "thug." All that shit sickens me.

Janis Joplin wouldn't have even had a fucking chance in today's fucked up music world.

OK, I disagreed with pretty much the whole post, but this one really got me. The girl is not tall--she's like 5'6 and that is NOT an hourglass figure she is a PEAR figured girl. Hourglass =Sophia Loren, Halle Berry. End of story.

I think what it comes down to is hype. Beyonce really isn't that great looking, but people believe the hype the media presents.

Mastodon is right unattractive/plain people don't stand a damn chance anymore no matter how talented they are.

Now Beyonce's voice is unique, I agree. But that whole trembling thing, I assume started with Jonnhy Gill, Swv, Monica and the rest of them. Beyonce has her own style of singing though and it's very disinctive.

9. As I'm not a huge Tyra or Halle fan, I obviously think Beyonce surpasses them. There have always been beautiful black women of varying hues, but there are some men who've never liked any until Beyonce came along. Not saying that's justified, but if you look on racially-tense message boards like say brazzil.com ... you'll see comments to that effect.

Obviously in my love for Beyonce I'm giving her the benefit of hyperbole here.
She's not the beginning and end of beauty.

Just pointing out a few of her strengths.

I do think the skin color & hair color have something to do w/ her appeal to all people, not just White (b/c Black people get hyped on that bullshit too). Sometimes people ignore the features & get blinded & just fall for that stuff. She's a cute girl but there's nothing amazing about her looks.
