Ruth, Millie & the gurls

I have been going thru some of my old vinyl, u know the stuff that my parents and grandparents played around the house as I was growing up, and I have come across some great old tunes. Ruth Brown's "If I Can't Sell It" is a comedy that plays out in the right way and Millie Jackson's "If Your Not Back In Love By Monday" still makes me wanna cry. Especially the complete side that features the lead up and the song and the answer. Makes my heart tremble. Just thought I would post this to see who else shares this taste in music. hug

I also grew up on Millie Jackson. One of my favorite cuts by her was Hurts So Good (from the Cleopatra Jones Soundtrack), and Hot, Wild , Unrestricted. Of course, you haven't lived unitl you've seen her in concert b/c she gives a hell a hell of a show and turns it out.

If I Can't Sell It [I'll Sit On It]! Yeah, you got hold of some OLD stuff! biggrin And Millie has something for everybody. "If You're Not Back In Love By Monday" is one of my faves. Also, "You Created A Monster" on the same album.....and YES, she DOES turn it OUT live!!

My parents had been going to Mille's show's since the 70's. So soon as I was of age, I went to her concert along with my mom.She was touring with Bobby Blue Bland and B.B. King. Hell, She made them look like choir boys. Again, I can't emphasize it enough. Millie is bad and will turn the mutha out .

Millie Jackson is definitely the real deal.

The cover says it all...

...Back to the shit!

Many moons ago I ran sound for a show she did in Georgia and got to hear her do the famous Logs and Things live.
She's one of a kind.

Looks like she's got her own label:

Millie Jackson is one of my favorite artists! She's GREAT.In the late 70s,I discovered one of my fathers' 8-tracks.It was Millie's 1979 album 'A Moment's Pleasure' and I played it constantly. She's a very soulful, very powerful vocalist and she has an outrageous sense of humor....lol...she tells it like it is!

Does anyone know what she's up to these days? I miss her.

Do you have her 1979 album 'A Moment's Pleasure'? The track "What Went Wrong Last Night" (Parts 1 and 2) is simply outrageous!! lol

In the early 1990s, she was doing a touring stage play called "Young Man, Older Woman". A few years ago, her daughter was doing the touring stage play circuit.
