New Geri Halliwell "Ride it"

OK i'm listening to her new song right now and it sounds nothing like her! It sounds like Kylie Minogue! DId she finally decide to take voice lessons??? LOL. By the way it's a good song.

I also thought "Ride It" sounded a lot like Kylie musically when I first heard it. British tabloids have reported that Geri had been taking singing lessons recently which would account for her voice sounding different.

I like Geri but didn't like the price tag of an import for her last CD, which wasn't that great. Where did you hear the song (NY radio?) cause they certaintly aren't going to be playing it around here.

I see it but can't really listen to it right now. What is Innocent? An indie label (her own). Does that mean that she is realeasing this in America! Good cause I want to get the album.

Her last album was released in Canada. I picked it up for a reasonable price while I was visiting Toronto.

The label is listed as Innocent, which is either an indie or a label she created. Hey, her first album was huge in Europe. I remember when I was in Italy, "Mi Chico Latino" was the only thing on the radio I heard and I had no idea it was Geri Haliwell until I saw the video. The album and single must have been huge there.

Actually, as far as I can remember, only Melanie C and Geri's first albums were the only ones released offically in America. Geri's did poorly (they only released "Look At Me" as single, but why not anything else?) but Melanie's didn't even show up on the map but was highly praised by the press.

I think Emma's album is out now. Geri's first album was actually certified gold here in the U.S., but I'm pretty sure most of those half a million copies stayed on the shelves in the stores. The big worldwide flop was Mel B's album 'Hot'.

I'm sure that the 'Innocent' label is an imprint of a major company. I'm too tired to look though.

It's 2:00am in England and I need to go to snoozy-land.

Emma's new album it out in the US? I've heard it was really good and has been doing very well. I'm not shocked that "Hot" was a flop just becasue that "Word Up" cover was awful.

I just heard "Ride It". Sounds just like Kylie. I hope Geri keeps some of her Ginger self in this album. Pretty surpring that the album went gold at all (shipped out copies or not) considering all promotion seemed to end after the release.

Billboard magazine reported back in August that Emma's album was scheduled to be released in the U.S. last month. I don't think that ever happened.

In 1999, the Spice Girls were still relatively hot so maybe retailers expected Geri's album to fly off the shelves and ordered lots of copies. Capitol records even released a limited box edition of 'Schizophonic' which included a videocassette of the "Look At Me" video, a Geri keyring and mini poster. The album did produce two top 20 U.S. dance hits, "Look At Me" (#12) and "Mi Chico Latino" (#19).

But everyone knows that top twenty dance hits (let alone number one dance singles) pay the bills or sell albums. I just remember when I bought the album in Septemeber when I came back from Italy, there wasn't a huge amount of copies still out. And as you said, it seems unlikely that the sold. Wonder if they all went to one store or something. smile I'm just shocked it went Gold but I guess they could have released a lot of copies or maybe it sold on the net after the fact. Who knows.

As for Emma's album coming out in America, Amazon still lists only an import verison (with a very hefty regular price of $39.99 for a European import but a good used price of $9.99). Damn Billboard, getting people's hopes up!

Schizophonic peaked at #42 in the states (7 weeks total on the chart) so I'd be surprised if total sales were more than 100,000 copies.

I love her because she's a tryer. She's ten-times more camp than Kylie. Kylie's campness is sort of arty and arch whereas Geri's is subconcious.

Did you all see her cameo in Sex & The City? I'd love to see her in a John Waters movie.
