I was poking a little fun at him too.
No offense to any real fans. I know the day he died, a co-worker of mine felt the need to blast John Denver's greatest hits out of mourning. I thought he was joking, but he was dead serious. I felt bad for hacking on him about the loud music.

I like John Denver. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

He had a beautiful tenor "folk" kind of voice.. Now his songs are a little passe, but I saw him perform on PBS for some charity event before he died. I thought he was good. Lyle Lovett also sang at J.Denver's funeral. I love me some Lyle. That's for sure.

I felt bad for hacking on him about the loud music. I know what you mean. I think I used the wrong choice of words when I said "depressing artist". Really I should have said "depressing music". As for him being an artist, he definately was that. I saw a movie about his life a few months ago and he seemed to be a an extreme talent and a wonderful man also. As for his music, I have always found it extremely depressing, to my ears anyway. And now that he is gone, it almost sounds haunting. Andy is a four letter word.

Personally, I think Country Road is one of the most beautiful songs in the world. Me and a friend were actually driving country roads in West Virginia and we sang that song and became incredibly happy!!!
And I love him because he fought for the mountains.

I really think that John's music is quite beautiful. It really helps you to appreciate nature better. Plus, I think because my mom had it playing a lot during my young impressionable age I equate it to happy childhood experiences. You know how your parent's record collection can help mold you! I saw that PBS special, too. I was just thinking about him because there was a new greatest hits remastered package at the store.

I don't mind his music. He was in a class of his own. 'Annie's Song' is my fav.

He gets a bad rap. Yes, he's hard to get into for some folks, but he's folksy in the harmless, feel good way.
John Denver and the Muppets alone is a Christmas classic, folks.

Yep, reminds me of childhood, too. He's not what you'd play to impress your friends, but he was a talented performer and songwriter, as well as an activist. Definitely sounds better when you're in nature than when you're in the city. Now, his wisdom in flying that plane... Check this song out at:

John Denver and the Muppets alone is a Christmas classic, folks. It is NOT X-mas in our house without this album! "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

To tell you the truth, I like a couple songs by him. It's really tragic how he died. He really wrote some good songs. Unlike the others, I can't hate on him just b/c he seemed nerdy.
