Bobby shares his thoughts on Britney's "Prerogative"

Bobby Brown hit Jimmy Kimmel's late night couch on Thursday and made it his "prerogative" to weigh in on a certain pop star who's covering his music. But not before he spoke with Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson about wife Whitney Houston and how the couple has been able to stay strong after 12 years together.

"Well, they tried to tear us down as much as possible," Bobby told Shaun. "I mean, they threw everything at us and we're still together."

"They said it was going to last about a week," Robinson noted. "You proved them wrong."

"Yeah, I know. I know. That's probably why we're still together," he admitted.
Indeed, Bobby had no problems professing his love for Whitney, whose comeback performance at the World Music Awards had the crowd on its feet and the music industry cheering.

And although Bobby wasn't at the awards, he was still able to catch Whitney's amazing performance via phone.

"She talked to me right before she went on stage. She called me...and had someone hold the phone while she was on stage. So as soon as she walked off, she grabbed the phone and was like, 'How was I?' and I was lost for words," he revealed. "She's incredible. She's an incredible lady and I'm just glad to have her in my life."

But it was Bobby who was doing the singing on Thursday night as a guest on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," singing his hit "My Prerogative."

Of course, someone else has been belting out that tune lately too -- the new Mrs. Kevin Federline, aka Britney Spears.

So what does Bobby think of Brit's interpretation? We showed him the music video and got his take on Brit's cover.

"I love the video," he told us. "I'm not impressed with the music."
"What don’t you like about it?" Shaun asked.

"It's not mine," he added.

And while the song states "I don't need permission...", did the pop princess at least have Bobby's blessing beforehand?

"Yes she did," he continued. "I was fine with it. I didn't mind. It's gonna make me some money."

But if Britney wants to get those dance steps perfected, Bobby said he's only a phone call away.

"Call me Britney. We'll get together and I'll show you how to really do it," he said.

what a fool. i'm glad he was at least honest about wanting the money but, dag, come on bobby. you're practically telling us you are desperate for the money and then you're gonna say "let me show you how its done." lol if you could show anyone how its done you wouldn't need to make your money by other people covering your songs.

the only thing bobby's gonna show anyone in regards to "how its done" is how to smoke out of the glass dick. crackhead. rolleyes

Sometimes I think its some of you who are on crack. Calling dude a bum and whatever. He made more money with New Edition than many of you will ever see in a lifetime of day jobs. On top of that, his wife is rich. Why is there this JEALOUSY of anyone who is doing well in life and doesn't have to work anymore? If ya'll could do it, you would too. Don't hate the player...you know the rest.
btw, the music is the only thing I like about her cover. It sucks.

Just because you have a lot of money doesn't mean you aren't cheap trash, if you get my drift.

I'm not envious of Bobby for one second. He and Whitney may have millions, but it's an abusive relationship and they're both drug addicts with failed careers. Sounds like a good life to me. rolleyes

Here I go defending Bobby Brown again. lol I doubt he's too envious of you either. As for failed careers, I don't know. It seems he had a great run there. What he's done the past 15 years doesn't obliterate the first 15 or so. As for Whitney's career, I don't even have to defend that. Their problems are well documented but let's see how they come out of that before you close the book on them.

As for the song, to prefer Britney's is to say you don't get it. Right Ted?

you'd think with all that money he'd have purchased some class by now. quite honestly, i'd rather work my day jobs and maintain my dignity and class than be rich enough to never work again but come off as street trash.

Not the point. The point is that he and Whitney have unfortunately descended into self-parody. Which I think is a damn shame considering their talent. What he's done in the past 15 years doesn't obliterate his legacy, but it sure as hell does tarnish it. Same goes for Michael Jackson's antics.

And I'm only going to go on the present, as opposed to what might happen in the future.

P.S. Britney Spears' music is abominable, and her cover of MP is especially putrid.

I never said that Bobby was a nice person or a good person, I said he's not broke. I know he's not nice. There's a story behind that statement, but I'm not telling it on a message board.
You must be a helluva recording artist yourself, VC to be able to dismiss both Bobby & Whitney's careers in a simple swoop.
Whats your definition of a successful career? Pop star is not meant to be a lifetime occupation. The very fact that we are sitting here discussing them in this manner denotes a degree of success on their part. This does not give them credibility as people. I'm just saying that they probably have a lot more money than you think they do.

P.S. You do not need to be in the exact same position as someone to evaluate them. Sorry.

And clearly, you are defining success as money. I was not. Of course they have millions. So what? It doesn't make them better people.

"Clearly" you have no real idea of how I define success. You assumed that by my respose. Both of these artists' careers fall within any REASONABLE definition of successful. I'm not going to sit here in play semantics about this. There is no basis to assume Bobby Brown is a broke bum when he has had a career in the music industry that has lasted well beyond the nornmal length of the average pop star. He's obviously not making the same type of money doing music as he once did, but there are no indications of financial distress on his or Whitney's part. That's what I meant. Artistically, New Edition influenced a whole generation of imitators and they have songs that will not be forgotten for a very long time. Bobby was a part of that. I won't even dignify this with an answer in regards to Whitney. Of course they have problems, but those problems don't seem to be financial. Don't front. Whitney is by almost all definitions of the word a "successful" recording artist. This has no bearing on who they are, how they are or the problems they have. They are not broke careerless bums, though. That's just plain f**king stupid.

Too bad you didn't bother to read my posts, otherwise you'd know I didn't actually call them "broke" or "careerless". I think their careers are definitely struggling at the moment, however.

They most certainly are NOT in need of cash. You keep referring to that, so please tell me where I said they were in financial distress?
