Billy Ocean... why all the hate? Come on now. Suddenly is still a great LP. Give it up for the Caribbean King!

Who hates him anyway, even is he did white boy soul like Lional Ritchie, but I prefer Billy over Lional as his voice is tons better and some of his muci is very dancable!
"get outta my dreams (get into my car)" "Gun for hire" "Licence to thrill" "I sleep much better (in someones elses bed)" "Loverboy" I prefer his late 80's album ("tear down these walls") to his earlier stuff.....remember "love really hurts (without you)"? I got his early 90's cd somewhere.....havn't heard it and think i lost it many years ago.....

I don't see why some people are hating on him. In the 80's, I was jammin with his ass. He some good cuts outs like: Feel Like Getting Down, Carribean Queen, Love Zone, Sudddenly, and Loverboy. I wonder what he is up to now. From the photos that were posted, it looks like he's grown dreads and has on a cap and grown. Interesting.

"Nights Feel Like Gettin Down" is his best cut! No doubt. I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

Alright now, its Jeffrey Osbourne hands down. This man can sing his ass off and sing some womens drawers off at the same time. He definitely has more juice vocally than Billy Ocean no doubt. [Edited 11/13/04 22:16pm]

'Suddenly' is a VERY good album.Side One (for those of us who remember the vinyl days, lol) is top-notch...
"Carribean Queen (No More Love On The Run)" "Mystery Lady" "Syncopation" "The Long and Winding Road" There were a few other decent hits after that (most notably,1987's"Love Is Forever"),but then he lost me with that awful 1988 single "Get Outta My Dreams,Get Into My Car",which is pop garbage

You probably mean that guitar riff after that rhythmless drumbeats (something I never understood..).That riff's a killer, the intro isn't in my opinion. Like Donna Summer, with a voice like that he should have tried different stuff,e.g.something with more guitars in it!!His music,to me,has always been far too poppy.I like 'Loverboy',though..

[Edited 11/13/04 22:16pm] I can agree with that. Billy was a little more saccharin with his vocals and vibe.

Holy fuck, that's Billy Ocean? That's what I thought when I looked at the "then" and "now" pictures. Billy kinda has the George Clinton look going on in that last picture, with the dreadlocks and the colorful clothes. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Oh the serious tip, we must keep in mind he is from Trinadad. So, he may be going back to his roots w/his rasta dreds.

"Mystery Lady" was the cut! I am a big fan of Billy's early 80's material.
Billy vs. Jeffrey Osborne...I've got to give Jeffrey this one. His Ultimate Collection is just phenomenal.

Gee, it looks to me like he's wearing a ceremonial robe for a ceremony, not making a fashion statement. He's an older Black man who chooses to wear dreadlocks, what's so wrong with that? I like his new look. I love Billy Ocean's music, but I can't compare him to Jeffrey Osborne - apples and oranges, luv.

I just bought his greatest hits album. I loved Billy back in the day.
His ballads are some of the best of the 80's. Suddenly is in my top 10. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack
