Gwen Stefani Furious About Linda Perry on WHAT YOU WAITING FOR

I'm so confused....why would she use this as her first single??? I didn't know Linda Perry wrote this song-it sounds exactly like something GWEN wrote. Why would anyone MAKE Gwen collaborate with someone??? It's just wierd.

November 3, 2004 - World Entertainment News Network

No Doubt beauty Gwen Stefani has slammed her record company for forcing her to collaborate with Linda Perry. The Don't Speak singer cried herself to sleep after music giant Interscope ordered her to duet with Perry on the track What You Waiting For?, straight after Stefani's demanding Rock Steady tour last year.

But the 35-year-old regrets giving in, because Perry didn't understand her musical style and had no time for her input.

She complains, "Linda Perry was not even on my list of people to work with. I've known her for years because we were the first two girls to sign up to Interscope, but I never wanted to work with her.

"She came up to me at the Grammys and said, 'We're going to do something together.' I was thinking, 'Oh great. You don't understand the record I want to make.'

"The record company was putting pressure on me to work with her straight off my Rock Steady tour. I cried in my bed and then I agreed. She'd been up all night - maniac - and had this track What You Waiting For?, and I was like 'Hey, wait for me! It's my f**king record!'"

oh for heaven's sake, courtney love has been ranting about linda perry working with stefani for at least the past two years (linda perry wrote a bunch of stuff on the latest c.lo album), and from what she was saying, it didn't sound like gwen was having such an awful time. but then again, consider the source of the gossip... confused

Well I like the song.. and it sounds like what I expect Gwen wanted for her solo disc. I say hats-off to the A&R's who made them work together lol

"What You Waiting For" is my favorite song this week (after hearing it awhile ago).

Yeah I would guess that these collaborators replaced the band and did all the music, and Gwen gets co-writer cred for lyrics.

Probably flip-flopped on some of the song titles (known to happen), and some bound to be b-sides (Mary J. Blige collabo).

She cried because she had to work with Linda Perry?

That's kinda funny. I can just imagine her in bed crying saying "I don't wanna work with her," like a spoiled child sent to their room.

Yeah, and it looks like she recorded enough tracks for a double CD! The other songs could re-surface as B-sides or appear on a "special edition" CD of her album, which many artists seem to be doing these days (Usher,Norah Jones, etc).
