For anyone that cares: Alicia Keys book comes out tomorrow!

It's called Tears For Water and it's a collection of poems as well as lyrics to all of her songs. Check it out and tell what you all think about it!

Please do! I'm hearing that it's good, but I guess it will all depend on the reader. I haven't recieved my copy yet but I'm really looking foward to reading it.

i'm sure she'll give American Poet Laureate, Jewel, a run for her money.

I thought that the trend was to star in a movie or come out with a clothing line.

Yup. Next up, a number of speaking engagements at college campuses geek. After that, she'll release a line of edible paaantiezz (can't let Vivica beat her to it!).

Uh, Jill Scott also will have a poetry book that will drop at the beginning of next year. Will all of these theories apply to her?

Seriously, I think people that are serious about poetry will take her more seriously. Her maturity will appeal to mature people in a very mature sense. Seriously.

I agree. I think that I read a review of her book and what's it's like and I heard that it's good and for grown people. But give Alicia a chance too. Jill will come a lot more mature and she's a poet, but I'm hearing that Alicia's book is pretty good too, and she's a bit more personal in my opinion.

When I finally get the book, I will let everyone know how it is.

Jill Scott is a SESSION poet as much as she's a vocalist.

She's been doing this for years & years, many veteran poets like Sonja Sanchez & Nikki Giovanni complimented her poetry sessions(coming from them, thats alot).

Anybody can come up with a book nowadays, anybody can stand in front of a mic and look pretty like Nia Long in the Love Jones movie,,,but can ANYBODY be expressive?

I'm not a fan of Jill's music but she won me over when I saw her pre4ming a poem called "Nothing Is Nothing" in the DefPoetryJam session.

Shit,,,her poet "Thickness" from he live album should shut everybody up who suspects her poetry work.

So hell naw, ALL these theories DON'T apply to her.

Well thanks for the breakdown! I didn't know that she was that deep into poetry. What do you mean by being expressive though? Are you saying that the power of poetry lies in the delivery?

What subject & how you tackle it, how you choose the words, how you hit on the right nerve and yes, if possible how to deliver it,,,not just make a rhyme with words you pick out of a dictionary!

Alicia is not primarily a poet. She is primarily a pop singer. She's a good pianist and a decent songwriter, and I like her quite a bit. But she is not primarily a poet. Jill Scott is first and foremost a poet.

I can't say anything about the poems in Alicia's book, since I haven't read them.

Lol, it obviously did. I never read Jewels book so I was trying to get a bit of feedback on why people didn't like it,

Basically I was saying that after Jewel's horrible song "Intuition" people used their own about her poetry book and were right. wink
