These two POP superstar divas are argueably two of the best pure female voices of our time (at least in my time). Back in the early 90's (please take me back, actually take me back to the 80's instead) they were on top of their game going double platnum each time out and competing for top billing. Now they have both lost their integrety, some of their fans, and popularity with mainstream culture. People are laughing at them like they really enjoy the fact they have fallen. I don't get this? I could see people laughing at 50 cent, R.Kelly, or Eminem if they start to fall off but why these two? Maybe because their rich and both pretented to be someone they were not. Talk about the NY Yankees choking. Whitney is choking on pipes and Mariah is chocking on...well U figure it out. Hey, at least Mariah still has her voice.

All the old artists doing new music have lost the funk. The new artists never had it to begin with. Andy is a four letter word.

Not exactly, it's just that it seems to me, and probably many other stevie fans, that he started singing higher more often since the 80s and his vocal inflections/mannerisms became somewhat obnoxious to an almost self-caricature level.

'Xactly! Listen to "Creepin'", or "Superwoman", then listen to anything after '82, ( you'll see the difference...)- much higher now. Thank you! It cracks me up, because I could never put my finger on what it was that bugged me on his more recent recordings. Now I know. It's more than that to me though. I don't think Stevie has really lost any of his talent, just his uninhibitedness. His 80s albums are derided critically, somewhat unfairly, because he succumbed to the contemporary mainstream production gimmicks e.g. drum machines and synthesizers (the later which he pioneered and used to use effectively and organically), but his sense of melody and groove still remained very well intact (some say it even improved in some ways). Stevie needs to just release music on his own terms, stop overdosing on sentimentality, and stop bothering to sound current. And most of all, he needs to stop being such a freakin' perfectionist.
