Clarence Carter - Strokin'

Strokin'

When I start makin´ love
I don´t just make love...
I be strokin´
That´s what I be doin´, huh
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best
I be strokin´

Let me ask you somethin´...
What time of the day do you like to make love
Have you ever made love just before breakfast
Have you ever made love while you watched the late, late show
Well, let me ask you this
Have you ever made love on a couch
Well, let me ask you this
Have you ever made love on the back seat of a car
I remember one time I made love on the back seat of a car
And the police came and shined his light on me, and I said:
´I´m strokin´, that´s what I´m doin´, I be strokin´´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best
I be strokin´

Let me ask you something...
How long has it been since you made love, huh?
Did you make love yesterday
Did you make love last week
Did you make love last year
Or maybe it might be that you plannin´ on makin´ love tonight
But just remember, when you start making love
You make it hard, long, soft, short
And be strokin´
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best, huh
I be strokin´

Now when I start making love to my woman
I don´t stop until I know she´s sas-ified
And I can always tell when she gets sas-ified
´Cause when she gets sas-fied she start calling my name
She´d say: ´Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter
Clarence Carter, ooooh shit, Clarence Carter´
The other night I was strokin´ my woman
And it got so good to her, you know what she told me
Let me tell you what she told me, she said:
´Stroke it Clarence Carter, but don´t stroke so fast
If my stuff ain´t tight enough, you can stick it up my...´ WOO!

I be strokin´ Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best, huh
I be strokin´
I be strokin´ Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´, Yeah!
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the north
I stroke it to the south
I stroke it everywhere
I even stroke it with my... WOO!

I be strokin´
I be strokin´ Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´

lol Gotta love this song!
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

You can find it on a number of Clarence Carter's "Best of" and greatest hits compliations. The 2001 "Best of" set has "Strokin'" the Long & Dirty version.

I saw Clarence Carter about a year and a half ago, and he performed strokin'. It was funny yet pathetic seeing this old guy singing this stuff.

It will be just as pathetic when P eventually stops being a JW and resumes singing "Head"....

Fron the first time I seen that "Blues & Soul" commerical back in the '80's I was at least 7 or 8, and they would show a clip of him singing that song, me and my cousin would fall out laughing.

We knew what the song was about but to see a man up at his age singing it (then and NOW!!) is just hilarious. When I was in high school my friend would play over the phone every other ,having me and my other frineds rolling....until his mom would pick up the other phone and embaress him for taking her blues tape. the entire song , up to the part where he says he was "in the back seat with his woman and police shined his flashlight on him" I bust out in tears laughing. Now that's a classic.

Yep. That description is dead on. Did you see the same "Down Home Blues" compilation commercial like me? They used to show this Blues commercial every Saturday on BET around 1989-1990 and they'd show him singing that song.

Why bring P up here? IF he were 2 resume singing head when hes 70, he would still b the funkiest, and coolest. The reason that hes cool, he's from the OL SCHOOL & u know it...sexy 2. He'll never not B sexy. No matter what he does. cool ..

Classic tune.

Clarence has got the dirty old blind man shtick on lock-down.

If he's not Strokin', then he's asking some woman to Slip Away or telling her he's gonna Kiss You All Over
or talking to her about Making Love (At The Dark End Of The Street) or via his Dr. C.C. persona giving his
prognosis on why Grandpa Can't Fly His Kite.

I gotta use what Mother Nature gave me
Before Father Time takes it away

Did y'all know he used to be married to Candi Staton?

hmmm That's intersting. I had no idea that Candi Staton used to be married to the Strokin King Clarence Carter. Since she has been divorced from Clarence, she has remarried a minister and started singing Christian music. I recently saw her on the Word Network.

You take issue with everybody for minor things, and when you're pointed out to be wrong you still show out. Do not start with me, if you don't like what I said, move on and forget it.

Living down here in the "Home of the Blues", I really can't make an honest opinion about the song. The majority of people down here that are older than the hip hop generation, listen mainly to blues and they wear the songs out to the point that they all sound alike.
