John Legend

Who's hip to this brotha? I've been listening to his CD (yeah, I know it won't be out til December...don't ask!) and something occured to me. I think he is neo-blues! I know that he has been the voice behind Kanye West's work and most of the tracks on his CD don't coimcide with this concept, but when I listen to his voice, I don't hear a soul singer so much as I hear a blues singer ala Johnnie Taylor, Lattimore (not Kenny), ZZ Hill, and Tyrone Davis. If at this point you are asking who those people are, you may not know blues all that well and maybe a bit of research wouldn't hurt. For those that do, check this guy out. His voice is soulful, but with more of a blues edge. He has a track called "Live It Up" that exemplifies this perfectly. I think if he hones his sound, he could do for blues what D'Angelo did for soul. While I'm not all that partial to his upcoming CD, I think this guy is very talented and with the right producer, he could really blow up. Problem is, Kanye West is syphoning off his talent right now, so it may be a while before we see that happen. I loved what he did at the Smokey Robinson tribute and he showed his skillz as a singer and as a piano player. I'm not feeling the single he's got out right now that much, but I hear "legend" in his voice if he keeps on. Anybody else feelin' this dude?

Hotlegs

He has potential that needs to be developed more. No doubt he is on the right track.
