I've been thinking about just the opposite lately. More like, whatever happened to Public Announcement?

So I'll start with R. Kelly
Will Smith (DJ Jazzy Jeff)
Gloria Estefan (Miami Sound Machine)
Marky Mark (Funky Bunch)
Caron Wheeler (Soul II Soul)
Ann Nesby (Sounds of Blackness)
Luther Vandross (Change)
Norma Jean (Chic)
Patti Labelle (Labelle)

The Police - Sting
Wham! - George Michael
Simon & Garfunkel - both of them
Beatles - all 4 of them (Ringo a little less than the rest)
aaah, isn't everyone who ever joined a band going solo? I mean I also have a cd from Andrew Ridgely (ex Wham!) it would be more interesting if you name the succesfull ones like Sting and George Michael
the beautiful ones, you always seem to loose

Well, this could go on forever, because it seems the vast majority of lead singers go solo eventually.

Montrose - Sammy Hagar
The Miracles - Smokey Robinson
LTD - Jeffrey Osborne

Blind Faith - Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood
Derek & The Dominoes - Eric Clapton
Traffic - Steve Winwood
Journey - Steve Perry
The Babys - John Waite
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

You forgot Jermaine, Marlon and Jackie. They've all released solo albums. Randy too if you include The Jacksons.

They may hold the record for the group with the most solo artists.

That's not quite what I mean. Sade is the lead singer of a band by the same name--like Marilyn Manson. I'm talking about someone who basically records a whole record by themselves under the guise of a band name.
