the stinking Alicia Keys affair...

Hi,
I read in a concert review that Prince was complaining at a soundcheck about Alicia Keys "stealing" his song... and now I read in another concert review that Alicia played with him at an aftershow... what's this, another typical-cynical P attitude or what?

The only cash there is is the cash we make.

When she performed at last year's celebration, she played HCUDCMA...After the show, he praised her version & the drummer, they took a walk, & God only knows what happened...Then at the "Divinity" soundcheck, he bashed on her for stealing his song & profiting from his work.

Although I've seen your wickedness, I still love your effervesence. And I know that loving you don't make no sense, but I guess that's why I like it...

Good lord, I sometimes think people's ability to read and comprehend just goes straight down the toilet on this site..

So, attention people!!...Prince NEVER said he was angry or upset at Alicia Keys at a sound check!!...Read the posts--ALL of the posts, not just one by a hyped-up, overexagerating nutburger, and you'll reach this conclusion without any assistance...

Thank you...lol

Prince also said something along the lines of..
I don't have a problem with Alisha, she's great. I have a problem with her record company.

"He mentioned that Alicia Keys hadn't gotten a license to cover the song. Someone then asked why he let her come to the celebration last year. He replied, "Oh, she's completely cool. It's her record company that I have a problem with.".."~~BanishedBrian

"His comment about Alicia Keys was that her record company didn't receive a license for her to re-do the song. He was cool with her, just not J Records!"~~alexnvrmnd

"as far as the cat suit stuff-u got that twisted...alicia keys "stealing" his song-u got THAT twisted as well... i really don't mean 2 b harsh but sweetheart, u have 2 c things 4 what they r...instead of what u THINK they r..."!!~~Butterscotchcurlyhair

"And, I see your point in the fact that he was upset with the record company and not Alicia personally. That makes sense. As Divinity put it it seemed as though he was angry with her personally and that did not make sense to me since she had been invited to the Celebration after the release of HCUDCMA."~~GatorGirl

ALL of those quotes from people who were AT the soundcheck were on that thread, yet none of that sunk in with you guys??...lol...Let's hope this "Prince hates Alicia Keys for stealing his song" crap-O-la can come to an end finally...

I truly understand Prince's gripe with Alicia's record company, but let's hope he doesn't turn this into yet another neverending "feud".Why can't he just sit down with Clive Davis and settle this in a mature fashion?

Prince did come off as being hypocritical in his statement, but think about this:

When Prince did his covers on Emancipation and Rave, he probably went through the proper channels and got clearance. Since these people don't care, they said yes.

But when all these artists want to do Prince songs, they technically didn't get permission. They may have asked, but if he said "NO" they just did it anyway. Or Warner Bros. just gave permission without consulting Prince.

Prince did a damn good job of keeping his music safe from hip-hop sampling, but it seems now that they are whole cover songs he's slipping.

Truly WB thank you very much for making this clear to these people! cool You know it amazes me that so many people come to this site asking questions that have been debated to the bone already several times ...

Not that I am saying that they shouldn't ask if they wonder but hey... they could also think for a while before asking, do a site search and read up about what has been said so that it doesn't have to be repeated over and over again!! Gawd!! lol
