I, for one, am not looking forward to Destiny's Child return. It's not an issue of me being "a hater" or someone who doesn't like their music because I like a couple of their older songs. All I know is this, I've been hearing MAJOR buzz about this album on the streets, stronger than any album in years.

I feel another ClearChannel oversaturation coming on.

This album WILL debut at #1 in America and will be HUUUUGE. 2005 is a LOOONGG YEAR. I know that I will hear songs from this album everywhere (in the streets, the clubs, commercials, TV shows, grocery stores, retail outlets, cars, co-workers) and I just don't want to. It's just like Usher's Confessions LP, it's a ClearChannel album that you can't escape even if you hate it because it's everywhere. You're guaranteed to know of at least one song even if you hate the artist or album.

"Lose My Breath" is a mediocre Darkchild production, yet everywhere I go to I hear it, I even hear random people singing it.

I don't watch video channels, but people I know are telling me they're rotating a video called "Soldier" every hour on BET.

I know that I am going to hear this album incessantly for the next year and I don't want to! It almost reminds me of the Puff Daddy & The Family "No Way Out" album in 1997 -- you could not escape that sh*t -- that's the time I started discovering new genres because I couldn't what was on radio.

Hopefully, I'll be able to survive this.

When the girls -- Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams -- went off to do solo projects, it quickly became apparent that Beyonce hadn't simply been handed the spotlight -- she'd been the Child who most deserved it. While Rowland made a respectable impression on the charts with her Nelly duet, "Dilemma," and Williams churned out a couple of gospel albums, Beyonce sold 4 million copies of her debut, Dangerously in Love, starred in the third Austin Powers movie and won five Grammy Awards. In the past two years, Jay-Z's flaxen-haired lady friend has become a franchise unto herself and ostensibly has outgrown her childhood group. So perhaps it's admirable that this superstar diva isn't leaving her homegirls in the lurch. But, more than anything else, the new Destiny's Child album makes one ask: Why bother?

On Destiny Fulfilled, the trio does its best to justify its existence and succeed about half the time. The girls brought back "Say My Name" producer Rodney Jerkins for the sweat-soaked first single, "Lose My Breath," a percussive sex romp where they pant in time to a marching-band beat. That opening number is followed by "Soldier," a herky-jerky ode to gangsta love. "If your status ain't hood/I ain't checking for them," the girls harmonize during the chorus. "Better be street if he looking at me. . . ./Known to carry big things, if you know what I mean." To prove they're serious, they have rappers T.I. and Lil' Wayne drop rhymes glorifying the profound love between a thug and a thugette. It's a hot track, even if the message feels affected coming from these church girls.

But after kicking off on a high note, the album slumps into an endless string of overwrought R&B ballads where the only saving grace is that -- damn! -- these ladies can harmonize like nobody's business. Jerkins should hang his head in shame for having a hand in the maudlin "Cater 2 U," a saccharine tune about how low Knowles, Rowland and Williams will stoop to prove their devotion to their man. In her verse, Beyonce offers to brush her man's hair, put his do-rag on, rub his feet and give him a manicure. Rowland, meanwhile, promises to "keep my figure right," "keep my hair fixed" and, most important, if her man should come home late and she's asleep, all he's gotta do is tap her on the shoulder and "I'll roll over." Since when did these independent women become so craven?

The trend continues in "T-Shirt," another low-key R&B number about how awesome it is to sleep in your man's T-shirt. With the exception of the bumping "Through With Love," even the done-me-wrong songs muster only a smidgen of genuine anger, instead delivering the message that, yeah, you hurt me bad, but I'll get over it. The formula works out nicely on "Is She the Reason," where producer 9th Wonder lays a powerful beat alongside a trumpet-laden sample from Melba Moore's groovy "I Don't Know No One Else to Turn To."

When I actually heard them singing "turn on the game, brush your hair, put chor doo rag on" I cringed. Soldier is boring at best and the video reminds me of that old MC video.

Lose My Breath is not a great song but it’s catchy. The video has become a favorite due to my uncontrollable laughter during their You Got Served-like dance routines. Those girls are dancing hard, like their lives depend on it. No wonder Bayawnsay pulled her hamstring. And that one shot of Michelle in the newsboy hat and I don’t know what type of dancing she’s doing but reminds me so much of Rerun I fall out every time I see it.

"Lose My Breath" took six weeks to peak at #3, and is now on its way DOWN the Hot 100. What does this indicate? Huge rush at the beginning, but quickly losing steam after people realized the song wasn't so hot. It's the classic pattern for a debut single that doesn't meet expectations and will lead to a sub-par performance for the album. I think that this record will perform (relatively) like TLC's "3D".

Furthermore, I've listened to the record and I can't imagine them spinning off another hit single let alone a year's worth (when does an album ever spin off a year's worth of singles, anymore? *sigh*).

In all but a couple of songs, the verses are divided into three sections, with Beyonce leading things off, followed by Rowland, then Williams; during the choruses, their voices combine into perfectly groomed harmonies. The design of the songs serves to highlight what we already know: that Beyonce is the powerhouse of the trio. And, despite a handful of strong cuts, Destiny Fulfilled sounds like the kind of album you make when you're saving your best material for your next solo album. Which, in Beyonce's case, better come soon.

I think they should've taken a little more time. I'm not saying "Dangerously In Love" was a bad album, as a matter of fact I enjoyed it for what it was at the time, but let's face it it was a smash hit for one reason and one reason only, "Crazy In Love". The album was ok with "Baby Boy" a nice second single. Now they come up with a ballad-heavy album?? They needed more time. They should've took this next year off, get married or whatever, sit down and actually write a few songs. I know writing is hard but c'mon, they've been in this group for like 10 years. They know their formula. They've sat in with producers I hope. Come up with a strong effort instead of treading water with a ballad-heavy album. "Survivor" was a fun album that might've been amatuerish in it's insistence on schoolyard dramas, but it had attitude and sass that was unmatched. I do like "Lose My Breath" and "Soldier". Those are signs of my old girls. I want my old girls back in full!

i like destiny's child and i'm looking forward to seeing and hearing them again. however, beyonce needs to chill out and take a break. i think she's overexposed and people may grow tired of seeing her everywhere.

When I saw the cover (which, BTW, reminds me of this one CD I used to see at Bestbuy all the time with these naked, middle aged white women laying on each other, sort of a lesbain vibe going on) and the somewhat pretenious title, I could tell this was no uptempo, "lets just basically do Beyonce's radio hits but as a trio" sort of album. I sensed slow songs.

I'm not thrilled for this album at all. They had some amazing hits back in the day but when they released two cash in albums in within months of each other (a remix CD and a Christmas CD), I was a bit turned off. And despite some really strong ballads and a two really hot uptempo songs ("Crazy In Love" and "That's How I Like It", I didn't care for the album as a whole and was very turned off by some of the songs that just tried to hard and felt forced ("Baby Boy" and "Hip Hop Star" come to mind). The new single isn't bad (it's the closet thign I've heard to dance music in a long time, even if it is Rodney Jerkins same color by number/ R&B song). I will not be picking up this on next week but will make a mad dash for ATHF V3! Glad it's coming out so soon after to the sort of dissapointing second volume.

not particularly excited about it. i mean, i like them a fair amount, and i think Beyonce is great. the other girls are good too. but it seems like a step backward.



although "Lose My Breath" does hit all the right buttons in my pleasure center.
