The Beauty that is GOLDFRAPP The last two nights I've been watching the live Goldfrapp DVD, 'Wonderful Electric' and my love for this band has soared to new heights. There are two concerts on two discs. One is a show from the tour of their last album, 'Black Cherry' and the other is an earlier show from their 'Felt Mountain' tour. The camera work is okay, but I feel doesn't totally convey what a truly visual experience a live Goldfrapp show is having seen them live myself. (I wonder if that's even possible.) What impressed me the most on the DVD was the 5.1 surround sound which is simply amazing. Portishead fans should really like the eariler show with it's large string section. There are also two short documentaries about recording each one of their albums.
Obviosuly I'm recommending this DVD to any electronica fans. Too bad the rumors of them working with Madonna proved unfounded.

Sextonseven, I got his DVD about 5 or 6 weeks ago, and it's rarely off my DVD player - awesome, awesome, awesome. Have loved them since Pilots onwards, and was so impressed with this new DVD release, that I've been meaning 2 create a thread about it 4 awhile now - I did wonder why u hadn't as yet too!
Great ain't it!!! Strict Machine is just bloody awesome, and their take on Bacarra's 'Yes Sir (I Can Boogie)' is so Germanic and kinky and just....just fucking great basically! Heard rumours Madonna wanted 2 have them produce her next album (hope not) and they've just scored a new film soundtrack - the name of which escpaes me...anyone heard it?

Lots of people REALLY dig her first album, which is indeed all Portishead-sy. But I liked her latest album... which includes the most amazing step into musical evolution...I like artists in development, movement.

I love me some Goldfrapp, but my favorite by them is always gonna be "Utopia" - it's just so lush and gorgeous. Yummy.

I love Goldfrapp and have seen them live and thought they were brilliant - but I'm not so fond of their first album as it totally rips off Ennio Morricone in places. Their second album is aweseome, though.

How about their interpolation of Olivia Newton-John's "Physical"? I like the studio version better because it's a bit more downtempo and spooky. Yes, the "Pilots" video is what initially drew me to them also. I was so amazed by the imagery of that small film that I had to find out who this band was! Unfortunately it took me awhile to find the region 1 DVD of 'Wonderful Electric' for the U.S. which is why I didn't post about it until this past weekend. . [Edited 11/8/04 8:42am]

Yeah, UK Girls (Physical) is bloody brilliant too - loved the live version on the 2nd DVD too - had never heard it live before. Just out of interest, where did u get the Region 1 set from? Org note me?

Alison answered this question in the 'Black Cherry' documentary. She relates to animals in some way or something like that, I don't really remember. I think she found a lot of the animal heads in the cabin where they were recording. Was it her parents'? I'm not really answering your question very well. I need to watch the DVD again.

NO. But I think part of her thinking for the visual side of the album wanted 2 play with that, and fuck people up a little, that's what Alison Goldfrapp's like!

Well if it were b4 the internet porn thing i would say she is just being Norweigan ( Timber Woods and Great mountain scenery in the back ground ) but considering... its come more popular with women since the dawning of the internet,,,, esp. single women. I was in a conversation with someone at a restaurant about a month ago and there were a table of girls sitting behind me and i heard them start talking about it .. about being tired of the commentment and all and one said she had gone to 4 legs instead of 2 and i like to have choked on my food. We were in booths so they didn't notice. and they just kept talking about it and some of the others concured they had thought about it after seeing it on the internet and how convenant it would make their life not to have to play the game and still get laid and go about their lifes with out attachment ( they were in their early 20's i think ) i didn't want to turn around and stare. So i have been thinking about Goldfrapp doing the same ... Its a bit strange to me... Thats all.... And to be honest it abviously takes more of the *P* out of the line up at the end of the day for all us guys... I worried i might get beat out of a date by a greyhound. [Edited 11/8/04 21:07pm]
