Bob is a genius. It's too bad more people don't get him. Why would anyone want a musical genius to retire?? shrug

Elton John---don't get me wrong,I am a fan of his.Well, mostly his 70s stuff. But these days,he has become somewhat of a joke. He's primarily in the media only for his bitchy, queeny tantrums, and much of his recent music consists of bland, adult contemporary crap and Disney theme songs. It's time to give it a rest,Elton.Do a final "Farewell Tour" and hang it up.

Michael Jackson---I've been a fan of his since the early 70s and I've followed his career ever since. But let's face it folks,he's done with.No matter what happens in his child molestation case,he's finished. For the past decade or so,he's been in the news for things that have absolutely nothing to do with music! His bizarreness and strange behavior gets more attention than the music, and when that happens,it's time to call it a day.Besides,he hates touring and takes too long to release new albums anyway. He has a musical legacy that he can be proud of and his music will live on forever. But it's time to retire,Mike.

The Rolling Stones---Like Cher, these guys seriously need to do one more final "Farewell Tour" and call it a day.Nothing lasts forever, you know.

Lionel Richie ---I'm a huge fan of his,but it's sad watching him these days.In the 80s,he was a massive pop superstar who sold millions and played huge arenas all over the world. But just a few years ago,he was the opening act for Tina Turner (!) and he hasn't had a legitimate hit record since 1987.These days,he releases watered-down pop albums that sell about five copies here in the US.As a longtime fan,it's embarassing to watch.

boxed

I agree with you on this-- except for the STONES!!! I hope they live forever! And rock forever!!!

The Stones are one of the greatest rock and roll bands EVER and I'm a fan.But it's hard to watch them perform these days.

Sorry Mariah irritates me like nails on a blackboard. She has become skank queen with the outfits.. she needs to wear some clothes that be fitting her ass and boobs better! Its like slut central and quite frankly all her songs sound alike to me now, AND she is another one that screams constantly.. Its like alright Mariah, how many times do we have to hear your octive pitch already????? rolleyes rolleyes

One of the greatest songwriters ever. Not a great singer but with lyrics like his, who cares? His 80s stuff was lame but other than that he's a true songwriting genius. nod

Don't get me wrong. I worship Bob Dylan. I can't even express how much. He's GOD. But he is a bit croaky these days, you've got to admit. His voice is gone. But that's okay. I would never tell someone to retire. smile

Still, some people find his voice nowadays more attractive than ever!I'm not talking for myself here, but his voice suits a song like 'Not dark yet'perfectly!
And I have to mention that not everything he did in the 80s was bad...

Prince.

This years tour was well received, the CD was forced upon people attending though, for that reason it held a false position in the billboard charts for six months, it would have sunk without trace within a month without the tour. IMO he hasn't released a truly great CD in years.

Outtakes and Live bootlegs keep me going as a fan. I still buy his new albums, listen a few times and let them collect dust. His studio work has been horrible for some time.

I have to agree with you on this one:The music he makes these days is uncomparable with the stuff he used to make,so I have more interest in finding the music he didn't put on record...

YA'LL ARE SOME CYNICAL, SPITEFUL AND TRULY SELF-INDULGENT PEOPLE. Rather than just learn to look the other way (ignore your radio & t.v.), you'd rather wish these people into retirement? I didn't see one name worthy of retirement on this whole list. Why? Because these people are doing what they love. Nobody begs any of you to go to their shows, watch their videos or buy their music.
The people you should be wishing into retirement are the heads of Clear Channel, Mtv, VH-1, Sony Music, WEA and Universal music. These are the people who need to retire. These are the people that control your media.

I was going to say Prince until he gave a little more than he has on the last few tours. The tour before Musicology he didn't dance and performed like he was older than James Brown.

Come on , you know there are some artists who have reached their sell by date ages ago. Who should quit while they're not ahead?

the rolling stones?

I think that artists should have maybe a ten year limit. Really, how many artists produce their best work 15-25 years into their career? Not too damn many. Obviously there are exceptions, but for the most part once an artist loses his/her creative spark the music they release late in their careers pales next to their earlier work.
