Just a few of the greats.... Bass is the Best!! I freaking worship it. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan

John Paul Jones was already mentioned, but I just had to take this opportunity to post a pic of the man. (or two)
He also posted on his website (link below for anyone who's interested) a couple of days ago to answer questions and talked about his new album and the possibilty of a tour. http://www.led-zeppelin.c...wtopic=178 "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Paligap , has initiated some really thorough and extensive bass threads (players, basslines, etc.) Can't blame you that the "SEARCH" function doesn't work. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I think it's a crime how Peter Hook rarely gets mentioned in most best bassists lists. He completely reworked the way to use that instrument.

The one and only, Mr. James Jamerson The late, great Mr. Cliff Burton-Metallica's first bassist, the Kill 'Em All-Master of Puppets eras, he was a classical music buff (among many varieties of music), played with his fingers, and was absolutely incredible. He stretched the limits and was, in my opinion, one of the main reasons Metallica was as influential as they were from those first three albums. The classical elements you hear in those albums are highly because of his input.
