Not elitist enough?

Heart was great, especially in the 70's, although some of their 80's material has its merits, too. Wilson sisters could (can) rock.

I've heard very little of '80s, but most of that I did hear I wasn't much impressed with. If what I heard is representative of '80s Heart, I still gotta say: '70s Heart is NOT to be phucked with! hmph!

Their 80's material suffers from, well.....being produced in the 80's? lol The songcraft was still top notch, though.

You know what I noticed about the difference? Their rhythm section didn't sound as heavy in the '80s as it did prior. I like the heavy stuff. cool

Derosier left in 1981. neutral

They pretty much returned to their 70s style by the early 90s.Like many groups with long careers, its their 80s work that sounds the most dated....

right on!
headbang

Heart rocks. They could write a mean pop song. "Alone" is great.. and "These Dreams"... beautiful. Really takes me back to a different time. Sure, the production sounds a bit dated, that is part of its charm. "What About Love" and "Never" are both pure 80's bliss.

Great stuff. biggrin

Heart rocks hard! I love the both phases of their career but haven't heard this new album. Does it sound more like phase one (the late seventies, early eighites) or phase two (mid to late eighites, early ninties)? I just recently bought "Wild Animals" for real cheap but wasn't thrilled with the whole album. "Alone" is probably one of my favorite songs of theirs though (certaintly the best in phase two).

The new album is great and it sounds more like 70's Heart. Barracuda is featured in the new Grand Theft Auto game!

You know, the real problem is just this whole 80's retro trend, its a bloody mess. Now of course I'm not including prince in this, he has music that involves creativity and glimmers of real intelligence behind the lyrics (annie christian anyone?). But music from about 1974-1985 and a bit later was music created as a reaction to losing the cold war, and corporatism taking over the industry. Since then, we have been cursed with a lot of bad music following simmilar formulas, with a slim margine of royalties going to the artist, who is now half the time more computer magic than talent. Stop for a minute, look back at the 60's when there was social commentary, and a few artists still had classical training. The 80's consisted of bands that used a keyboard, a guitar, drums and some whining voice on vocals, and most of the small independant recording studios previously alive were crushed by big businesses. Now we have the internet, hopefully creative indie music can thrive again after decades in the dog house
