What Do We Think O f Brandy?

I love Brandy. I have the feeling that I stand alone, but I'd like to hear what some of you have to say. No one discusses her here.

I love Brandy. I think that she is extremely talented. Her vocal productions are the best and if you don't have her new album then shame on you!

Cant stand her! Her image and her whole "my man been doggin' me" look REALLY irritates the fuck out of me! Remember here tv show.....that was full of those sorta expressions of "my mans a dog" type of shit.....she does it in her vids too.....infact if anything, she paints a black stereiotype that says all black women r like this.....

I thought Brandy's latest LP Afrodisiac was great. And was one of the better releases of 2004.

I've been listening to her music since picking up her debut at Sam Goody wayyy back in 1994.

My Top 20 Most Played Brandy songs (courtesy of iTunes):

1. Have You Ever?
2. Like This
3. Put That On Everything
4. Love Is On My Side
5. When You Touch Me
6. Truthfully
7. (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
8. Focus
9. Come As You Are
10. Necessary
11. Say You Will
12. He Is
13. Who Is She To You
14. Sadiddy
15. Brokenhearted (Soulpower Mix)
16. I Wanna Be Down (Remix feat. MC Lyte, Yo Yo & Queen Latifah)
17. Where You Wanna Be (feat. TI)
18. Brokenhearted
19. Can We
20. Almost Doesn't Count

I noticed thanx to the usual namedrop (which I don't mind in this case) that Rodney and his 10 co-writng team r still about.....u know, I thought maybe Kane west might be on the lead.....Rodney was huge back in late 90's and I loved his innovative work with MJ.....will he go on like Teddy did? I prefer his productions way over N.E.R.D's ringtone sounding shit!

She's always said she was influenced by Whitney Houston and she certainly sounds like it....not an ounce of rhythm in her body or her music.

Errr... Brandy and Darkchild had a huge falling out post-Full Moon. That's why none of his work appears on her latest LP.

I think his sound is stale and he overwhelms all the tracks he produces. Blaque's "I'm Good," Tyra Banks' "Shake Ya Body," MJ's "You Rock My World," Toni Braxton's "Wasn't Man Enough," etc. He feels the need to have his artists read his calling card whenever he "blesses" a track. Brandy got tired of that sh*t.

Plus, that new sh*t he made with Destiny's Child "Blow My Chunks" (aka "Lose My Lunch") is GARBAGE.

What Do We Think O f Brandy?

A novelty act just like the rest of the ladies out-there. You may enjoy hearing her music(and if possible, her videos too) but after awhile, you 4get about her and ditch her.

Plus, like most the rest of those ladies, she relys on gimmickry to sell her shit. Who wants to hear about you personal life and who you're fuckin' with,,,that reality TV show was a drag and it came back and kicked her in the asshole when she made her latest album.

Personality wise, the chic is fucked up and got alot of growing up to do. Musicaly? Zzzzzz bored

I like your musical review. I won't say that she's forgettable but then I can't say that she's not. Why do you think that her music is forgettable or she's a person that you forget about? What makes an artist forgettable?

When they ain't got no subtance nor depth behind their shit. I want to relate to what you're saying, I want some knowledge and wisdom,,,like Lauryn Hill(I'm picking her becoz she's from this breed) same goes to Erykah Badu.

But then again its a matter of taste IMHO,,,like India Arie said "ain't nothin' what I said is law".

She(Brandy) can do the do with her music and get paid for all I care. Its her OWN thing, as far as I'm concern.

I was the one with the alien comments lol
I still think her music is only a'ight, and I still think she's got half human/half alien DNA.

i really like Brandy. I liked the whole Aaliyah/Brandy/Mya/Monica thing from back in the day. It seems like each of them represented black girls everywhere. I think they're all gorgeous black women. Aaliyah was the tomgirl from around the way that used to hang around guys, and then she blossomed and the same guys developed a crush on her and stopped viewing her as "just one of the guys", Brandy was the shy girl that nobody knew could sing, and it was a mistake to mistake her shyness for being naive, Mya was the ghetto girl that acted like she was too good for everybody, and was too sexy and knew it, and Monica was the "look, don't bring no bullshit around me and waste my time" type chick. Just like there was Aretha, Whitney, Chaka, and Dionne way back, i feel this was our generation. And they had positivity in their songs and it wasn't all about "shake 'yo ass, he's my man, bitch...where's your bentley and rolls royce and house on the hill? get out my face you broke mutha fucka" and i really enjoyed listening to them. But anyway, i like Brandy, cuz Brandy can actually sing, and i think she's a positive role model. We still have yet to see her get half naked and dripping wet in a video shaking her hoo-hoos and her no-no. And i think that she has matured GREATLY and we can see that in how she is now and in her music. Just my twocents though...

here's what i think about Brandy:

if you walked straight up to her, dead center, and said "hello" you could startle you because she never saw you coming biggrin

thank you! and it's true. and something else, they all got along. you never heard anything of them being like "i can't stand them bitches. if they go to the source awards too, then you can forget my ass going" I seriously thought "the boy is mine" was the start of some kind of feud. i'm glad i was proven wrong. i liked how they turned it into something fun. but yeah i dig Brandy.

Actually, "The Boy Is Mine" was created around the time Brandy and Monica were at the peak of their commercial successes. It was created so that they could play on all the rumours of them "hating each other" and finally have that be put to rest. Some people still tried to make up allegations saying that Monica and Brandy had a not-so-hot exchange at the VMAs back in '98, but overall there was no bad blood between them. A lot of that was circulated by each artist's fans at the time and the media (who are always quick to pit celebs against each other).

oh okay. well that's good. i'm glad nothing happened beyond all of that. and plus i never thought they were in competition with each other, i just thought they all had something different to bring to the table and respected each other for it. You never saw them trying to out do each other. it wasn't like "Oh okay, Brandy got Biggie on a track, i'm gettin' Tupac". good times...good times...

I like the Brandy she seemed on the verge of becoming, way back in the day,

a whole lot better than the Brandy she's become.

"Afrodisiac" is the only Brandy album I bought but I never got to listen to it much. I'll put it on my "to listen to" list. I've always liked many of Brandy's singles but usually never enough to buy her CDs. Perfect artist for a greatest hits set, considering how her albums tended to span a number of years and how she had a soundtrack hit or too in between (most notably "Sitting Up In My Room"). Considering she is no longer on her label, it's the perfect time for a collection. I just hope they take their time with it!
