concert merchandising worth the money? I know now that a lot of you orgers aren't really bothered with these ridiculously high prices of concert tickets, but what about the merchandising?
There wasn't a single good looking shirt on the last Prince tour I saw,but they were selling shirts for 60 dollars!!(a white print on a black piece of cloth..) I always like to have some sort of a souvenir after seeing a great concert, but these prices won't make me buy one...

I lost my mind at the Prince shows and bought just about every piece of merchandise I could find but, I think that was the last hurrah for me. When I went to the madonna show, I laughed at the prices they were asking for merchandise and left that show without so much as even a button to show I was there.... I've found, major tours with ridiculously high ticket prices tend to have ridiculously high merchandise. Smaller bands I've seen this year (Scissor Sisters, Interpol) have had VERY reasonably priced merchandise.

I haven't seen a piece of merchandise at a gig for years and years that managed to be both a) well designed and b) worth the money they were asking.
Maybe it's just me getting older, and there are plenty of people buying this tat. If the cost of just getting through the front door of the venue hadn't taken such a steep climb in recent years, then maybe the merchandise wouldn't seem quite such a rip off. As it stands now, it just comes across like a final slap in the face after the ticket fee/ booking fee/ postal fee/ whatever-extra-fee-we-can-get-away-with fee has been forked out for.

I was wishing I could get a black shirt with the 1979 Prince letters in silver but alas, they were only selling them to skinny sluts.

heck, i really liked some of the t-shirts from the musicology tour...and that's a rarity for me at a prince show, cuz usually that shit is UGLY. thirty-five bucks isn't great but it's okay for the prince t-shirts i got...it's about what i expected.

Yeah Prince's concert was great in merchandise prices when compared to Madonna's.
This is in Canadian dollars mind you Prince's programme cost like 20 dollars Madonna's was 40 dollars And the t-shirts were over 40 dollars as well. And it cost like 20 bucks for a wristband with an "M '04" on it. I went home empty handed that evening, sad to say. I wanted to buy something to express my madonna pride but i couldn't, so fuck you M!

Anyone who buys any merchandise subscribes to idolisation and marketing tactics, often without realising it.
Where else could you buy a 2 dollar t-shirt for 30 dollars? Are people so shallow they need to buy a shirt of their idol, just so they can ponce about saying look at me, I'm a prince fan! .

I KNOW I love Madonna but when she goes on her anti-materialism rant i just say "blah blah blah" And apparently with the Versace shoot she's doing, she ain't doing it as a friendship gesture to Donetella. She's asking for no less than 12 million....
