She had a great voice. I can't think of anyone that sounds like her.
And she had a great look too.
She was one of the few voluptuous pop stars.

"Lost In Emotion" was my absolute joint. I remember we used to think she was singing a girl's name: KaSarah, KaSarah! My friend TaMara said she wanted to name her first child KaSarah! giggle

Last year I saw her on an episode of Law & Order looking sweet as ever. J-Ho wishes she had Lisa's singing voice.

"can u feel the beat within my heart...."
dancing jig woot! dancing jig woot!

Fuck yeah! Love Lisa Lisa! I wore her/their debut album out. I think overall their sound is still pretty unique to this day. I got to meet her at Tower records when she released her solo album:

Didn't realise how short and uh...'front heavy' she was. whistling drool
She seems to be sampled a lot today.

Kylie Minogue, Nina Sky, and I heard J.Lo's new song was to have sampled "Can You Feel The Beat".

thumbs up! Great Thread!

I never felt that way. Gloria had the whole Miami-Cuban thing going on while Lisa was definitely Nuyorican--totally different sounds. J-Lo is more like a watered down Lisa Lisa.

Several years ago,I read an interview with Lisa Lisa and she seemed really pissed at the way her career turned out.She implied that she could have easily been where Gloria Estefan is,if she had been given more diverse material to sing. There may be some truth to that, but I think she just gave up too soon. Her solo album bombed in 1994,and we never heard from her again. The late 90s would have been a perfect time for her to resurface with a strong Latin pop album. She could have made a huge comeback.

I agree 100% with those comments (especially the L Lo. one, something I thought when I heard stuff from her first album).

It's too bad she never did make a follow up. Also, did she do some gigs with Cult Jam after? I remember seeing her perform on this eighties dance party thing that VH1 did that the Pointer Sisters performed on. VH1 used to be so cool before they became VH1(E!). I recently saw Lisa Lisa on an episode of "Law and Order:SVU" where she played the mother of a boy in similar circumstances to that of Michael Jackson's first accuser (the father wrote a script, something I just heard about in the first case). Only the parents, in this one, knew they where selling the boy to a comic actor. Shame on you, Lisa Lisa!
