In the summer of 1998.

I remember it BLEW MY MIND listening to an MP3 file for the first time. The sound was so clear and light years better than the 1 minute WAV files I was used to. Downloading a FULL CD-QUALITY song on a computer for the first time back then was revolutionary. Wow.

The year was 1999. I discovered broadband computing, Napster and ICQ. Live has never been the same

1996 or maybe early `97, when folks were still trading songs as realaudios (*.ra) and I got an mp3 of Daft Punk "Around The World". It was with that "LAME" encoding type so there was a bit of warble.. still remember being blown away though.

I think the first was either "New World" or "Slave" before the Emancipation set had been released. A lot of the stuff I downloaded back then was in mp2 format, though.

Back in 2002, when R. Kelly did that Loveland bootleg, I downloaded all 18 tracks and burned them on a CD.

I think mine was "Splash" by Prince.
